can some one pls tell me when we send the application to tipperary for naturalisation after how long does the department send us the refrence number is it few weeks or month time coz i send in my application on 20th jan09 so wen sould i except for any reply from them
Hi Adi, back in 2008, it used to take around 2 months max to get the reply stating your application reference number. It shouldn't take more than that now.

A question for the experts: is it true that once you apply for citizenship (5-year basis) you are entitled to stay in Ireland, even if you lose your job and workpermit, until you get an answer regarding your application?
Thanks,

I don't think so. I think it is your responsibility to keep your immigration status valid at all times (i.e. get a job and new work permit). That's why many people apply for LTR in addition to applying for naturalisation. That way they have less chances of being kicked out of the country...

Now, if you lost your job and cannot find another one (since the current economic situation is really bad), I think you can move back to your original country and tell INIS that you have moved back temporarily as you have lost your job / immigration status and that you intend to come back to Ireland as soon as your citizenship is granted and keep INIS updated of your current address. In addition, I would ring INIS every month or so to check your status. (In my original country the post system is really hopeless and they loose a lot of letters).

Good luck!

goodone:
You must keep your permission up to date at all times. I read somewhere that they would even request your up to date GNIB card and stamps before issuing the decision if they feel that your permission expired. Being out of permission can probably have a negative effect on the decision.
I am not sure about staying out of the country while waiting for your decision will work out. I don't think that citizenship section would send any post abroad. Did anyone had any arrangement made for their correspondences to be forwarded abroad?

Applied in August 2007 based on 5 years Resident (I am in IT).

Called a week ago to enquire about my application. They told me it was being look after at this moment and I should get a letter requesting more info.
I got a letter today.
They are requesting the following:

-- P21
-- 3 Payslips
-- 3 months bank statement.

LP, agniukas, many thanks.
I got a lovely lady over the phone last week when I called Citizens Info (citizensinformation.ie) and she was adamant about it... But I found it a bit strange, and risky. Tried to find that info in writing somewhere on the web but couldn't.

I've only applied mid-2008 for citizenship, so from reading what you've already posted guys, I'd say there's a long way ahead for me now.
Thanks again.

Newer applications seem to be going much faster than older ones. Also, I think in the current situation the amount of applications might drop actually.

I think you should be getting your approval by the end of this year or beginning of 2010... You'll see :)

Did INIS tell you when they sent your application to the Gardai?

No probs... I just wanted to know more or less how long they're taking on the Garda clearance.
My application was sent to the guards in September and I rang last week and it was still with them... So that's about 5 months now...

Garda check waiting times for naturalisation applications

Post by LuasPassenger » Thu Feb 05, 2009 2:35 pm

Guess what? On Tuesday there was a Parliamentary Question on Garda clearance waiting times:
263. Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if applications for naturalisation are being unnecessarily delayed due to backlogs at the Garda Síochána; the average length of time it takes for a report on the applicant to be received once it has been requested from the Garda Síochána; the measures he will introduce to deal with these delays; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3074/09]

Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Deputy Dermot Ahern): The Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1956, as amended, provides that the Minister may, in his absolute discretion, grant an application for a certificate of naturalisation provided certain statutory conditions are fulfilled. One such condition is that the applicant must be of good character. This is established mainly by carrying out enquiries with An Garda Síochána and is an important stage in the processing of all applications for naturalisation.

At present, 70% of all enquiries are receiving a response within 5 weeks, however, at certain peak periods each year this response time may not be possible. In very complex cases this process can take a lengthy time to complete and in a minority of cases this may take more than a year. This does not constitute an unnecessary delay in these complicated cases.

Officials from the Citizenship Division and An Garda Síochána are working together to ensure that any delays are minimised. However, there is a limit to the reduction in the processing time that can be achieved as applications for naturalisation must be processed in a way which preserves the necessary checks and balances to ensure that it is not undervalued and is only given to persons who genuinely satisfy the necessary qualifying criteria.

does anyone here know if claiming maternity benefit and child benefit is an issue when it comes to naturalisation??

My wife had applied for both and obtained this. I am naturalised but my wife is applying in her own right as a non-EU person living and residing in Ireland for the past 5 years on a work permit [reason being that although we have been married for nearly 5 years, I got naturalised only recently, hence the condition of being "married and living with an Irish citizen for past 3 years" does not apply in her case]

strongbow: child benefit and maternity benefit should not be a problem. but she will probably have to show that you are supporting her financially.

When they request P21, bank statements etc...

regarding the bank statement, did you send your "current account" or "saving account" or others...

My salary goes to my current account.

Thanks,
Nanette

Hi everybody,

Does anybody know where INIS Naturalisation requests Garda Checks from? Because my file is pending Garda clearance since 20th of October, I've decided to send a letter to Garda Vetting Unit asking for the status of that request. To my surprise, I have received a reply from them! They've advised that after checking their records they show no sign of INIS's request for my Garda Check...

There could be few reasons to it I think:
- INIS is requesting Garda Checks from a Unit other than the Vetting one.
- INIS is not telling us the trouth when saying they are waiting for Garda Clearing.
- The request for my check was misplaced somewhere along the way.
- Whoever in was looking after my letter in Garda Vetting Unit just made a mistake and didin't notice the request.

Any ideas:-)???

As said before, i am convinced that your point two is the only one, all those applications just on hold, because they have to do more recent applications to show Europe that they are "good guys"

sashasolar:
i believe the section is sending garda check requests internally, and they do not go through the vetting office. vetting office is only dealing with personal queries and i think are not giving third party information. meaning, you can only get information about yourself in there. but the use of it is very limited as it cannot be used for some purposes.

I did the same for my LTR and I have received the very same letter from them only in 3 weeks... I think the theory 1 above is the reason. Theory 2 is also possible but to be honest I can't think any reason for that one.
I don't agree with the 3rd and 4th because there are so many of us waiting for garda clearance including my close friends from 2006 July. My application was in Aug 06. I also don't agree with the 'hold' on the earlier applications and dealing with the recent ones for the EU regluations...it sounds like consiprecy theory. Because I haven't heard anyone (same criteria as mine) who received approval from 2007 or 2008 yet...
