Confused and help needed!

Post by goldie » Tue May 29, 2007 1:52 am

Hi all, this is my first post so go easy on me! right,I live in Belfast Northern ireland, but I have an Irish passport and a British passport,my fiance is from Brazil and we intend to get married there next year and then return to Belfast to live.
If we fly from Brazil to Dublin, and have our marriage certificate with us will my wife be allowed entry to Ireland and also will she be legally entitled to live with me and work in Northern ireland, all advice will be much appreciated.

Just read this on another post:

You can read up more information on this in other posts, but basically do the following:
1. go to GNIB with your irish spouse with your passport and marriage certficate
-- they should stamp your passport with a Stamp 4 residence permit (FREE)
-- they should issue you with a GNIB card which shows your Stamp 4 residency status (FREE)

2. apply at the GNIB for a Multiple-Entry Re-entry visa (FREE)

That's all that is required from you. You are then entitled to work and reside for up to 5 years. After that you can go back to the GNIB for a further stamp in 5 years time.

Would this be the case for me and my wife to be,and also would it matter that we would be living in Northern Ireland and not the south??

Northern Ireland is part of UK, so the UK rules will apply. Those that you have found and listed, are for the part of Ireland that can't deal with it, that is the Republic of it.

So here some more UK specific ideas for you -- based on your info you will be fine. Northern Ireland works, because it is UK, which knows how to deal with immigrants.

Think hard about whether you want to sponsor your partner under UK rules or the EEA rules. EEA rules are quicker and cheaper, but it takes longer to get permanent resident status.

If you go the EEA route, can you work out the mechanics of the "ppron method" to avoid your fiance having to wait much longer to become a British citizen?
