Thanks for the update. Do you have any idea how long it should stay in the processing stage? and is this stage is the final one? Thanks

Not at all xD

Stage 1 of 6: Your Application has been received and registered: Applications may remain at this stage for approx 4-6 working days.

Stage 2 of 6: Your documentation is being processed: Application form, submitted documents and photographs are scanned onto passport system for work at stages 3 and 4. This element of the process takes on average 4 working days.

Stage 3 of 6: Your Application is scheduled to be checked for Passport entitlement: Your passport application is currently being checked. This process can take up to 4 working days.

Stage 4 of 6: Your Passport has been Approved: Next stage is Passport Printed.

Stage 5 of 6: Your Passport has been Printed: Your passport will be posted in the next 2 working days by Passport Express. The production and posting stage takes about 2 working days.

Stage 6 of 6: Your new Passport is Ready for Collection, or

Stage 6 of 6: Your new Passport has been posted: Please consult the An Post Tracking System for more information.

I submitted my application this Monday via Passport Express.
I sent a written letter this Wednesday to request to have my other passport back as I need to travel abroad unexpectedly very soon.
I got my passport back in my letter box today (Friday).
The experience is not that bad as I thought.

The web chat is not helpful at all though and the estimated waiting time couldn't be less accurate.

I still cannot track my application even after I have received my other passport back. I was told that the scanning process will likely take place this afternoon. The tracking of the application will not appear until it's fully scanned (this has been confirmed by 3 different web chat agents).

That means, if you can see your application in the system, it means you are in stage 3 at least, where they are going to check with relevant authorities to see if your application is genuine and whether you are entitled to an Irish passport.

I got in touch with them today to check if the photos I sent were fine as I was worried mine wouldn’t be accepted and the chap on the chat said the following:

Okay your application is being processed,I can only advise you to keep track of your application online. Please note that this estimated date of issue is based on current average turnaround times for this service. While every effort is made to achieve this goal, the delivery periods for passports can vary depending on the volume of applications at any one time as well as operational demands. The date will not update but the tracker will change online for you. It will change from processing to printing and then dispatched once the passport is ready and on its way to you.The delay has arisen as a result of high demand for passports. We are experiencing high volumes of applications. The staff and the issuing office are working hard to deal with this demand. I cannot give you an estimated date of issue as processing times vary depending on the amount of applications we receive along with some other factors.

I don’t think I will be getting it on my due date lol

My status bar reached its end, however it is still processing. I was speaking to customer service and there could be up to 2 weeks delay because May is busy.

the estimated issue date is today but still saying processing. The issue is that my flight is already booked for 1st June, I spoke to office and on web chat re: same and sent them email but no luck yet.

You can request your original passport to be sent back: they cant send the certificate back though, so not sure how that would work. They advised me to contact INIS for that.

I applied for the Irish passport 2 weeks ago (13th May) and I was able to request for my Chinese passport back within 2 days (requested in writing on 15th and got it back on 17th).

I just flew back today - no issue at all at the Dublin airport.

You don’t need to take your naturalisation cert abroad anyway. It’s too valuable (and too poor quality) a document to be carried abroad.

The border officers have your information in their system anyway. If you want to make things easier for them, bring a copy of the certificate with you.

Of course since you will be using your foreign passport to enter Ireland, you will still need a valid entry permit (namely a valid Irish visa or a stamp) in your foreign passport, regardless of whether you are an Irish National or not.

ETA delayed. Initially 28/05, then 03/06, and now 05/06.

I just talked to the online chat team. According to them, there's a surge in the first-time applications via naturalisation (as expected), so it is expected that there will be some delays. Whether the scheduled issue date is changed or not depends on agent who takes your file.
