Hi Friends
I have a query regarding the documents for proof of name/address to be submitted for Passport applicaction. Would the utility bills downloaded and printed from the online account or email and 4-5 year old dated original bank statement be considered as original documents?
Hi

This question was asked before and someone said that they sent printouts, I am not too sure whether they were accepted or not. My suggestion would be to request your bank and broadband/utility company to send you last two printed bills. One might argue that it is no different from a printout but then there is no logic in asking for 'original' bills in this age of e-billing in first place - so we dont have choice but to do what they want us to as we are at receiving end.

Hi All

Disclaimer - This info has been gathered by me in bits and pieces from various sources - so can not vouch for authenticity.

When we send application and they receive documents the status changes to 'processing'. Afterwards there is a queue for registering the docs and then a queue for scanning the docs. Then the queue for verification of docs - after which they go for printing. Too many queues !! We can not do much other than just smiling at the whole situation.

Please read disclaimer again :)

"..and 4-5 year old dated original bank statement be considered as original documents?..."

I doubt a document that old would be acceptable.
I think any document would need to be less than a year old??

If anybody wants a laugh, here is my timeline ;)

Applied 04/01/21 - Status 'on hold' (post Brexit gloom...!)
Sent documents 25/05 (due to covid close down)
Documents received by passport office 30/05 - status remains 'on hold'
I wasn't asked for more 'proof' documents, but I sent two more on 15th july, just to try and 'kick' my application into life - status remains 'on hold'
03/08 - status remains on hold (decide to have a webchat tomorrow ..)
04/08 - after an hour of trying, I am in the 'webchat' queue (number 33 - 60 minute wait!)
While I am waiting, decide to have one last check on application......

Guess what ?????? === PROCESSING !!! :)

Estimated date ===== 26/06/21 !?!?!

Have a read of this page - https://www.dfa.ie/passports/documentary-requirements/
and see which documents you will need (it can be different for different people).

The webpage does not mention 'Original' birth certificate and states that a Certified copy of a Driving licence is acceptable for Photo ID.
Having said that I did send Originals of everything !! (mainly because the Paper application does ask for Original Birth Certificate...?!)

All documents (birth certificate, naturalisation certificate) must be original. Certified copies are not accepted.

They do accept a certified copy of passport though.

I sent everything as an original, except for a certified copy of my driver's license.

The certification was done by a solicitors office for £20.

That is what my History says (Pending....)

If the main page says 'Processing' that is what they are doing. Does it give you an estimated date for the Passport?

History is just that, history.

Your application sounds like it's now in processing, which means the documents were received, but not scanned.

Basically, you're in a massive in tray waiting for someone to look at it. You'll be there for a while...

Guys, ive got a question! I am really old!!! as in ancient!! and my folks laminated my birth cert before i could open my eyes!! the hospital i was born doesn't exist anymore and even if they did? i suspect no documents or hospital personnel still exist from that era so i cant go get replacement documents. I have read that the passport office don't accept laminated birth certs and they haven't mentioned any alternatives. Has anyone been successful or rejected submitting a laminated birth cert? And if rejected? what was ur work around?

Laminated birth certificates are not accepted. You need to ask your embassy to give you a replacement birth certificate. The birth record should exist.

I’m applying for the Irish passport with a nationalisation certificate. I sent all the required documents but I haven’t got a passport to send as I have been recognised as a refugee and submitted my original passport to the department of justice back then and never got it back.

So would that be a problem for the dfat if they don’t see my passport?

No. If you have a refugee travel document, send that instead of passport. If they insist on seeing original passport, then ask the department to return it to you.
