Just checked this morning.

Yesterday my status was still saying “processing application” but the progress bar was completely full - so I was feeling pretty optimistic.

This morning, the bar has gone BACK to around 3/4 full! No indication of why.

Estimated issue date was 18/5, and although I’m aware that’s only an approximation, it’s a bit of a frustration to apparently be set back.
I read on some other forums, people were receiving their passports around 15 days past the original estimate dates.

Does it still say 18/5 and "Processing application"?
Yes, it still says processing and estimated issue 18/5 :? . I was hoping it might have moved onto printing or checking - but not yet.
Thanks for update, fingered 🤞 for everyone.

Nothing. :( The progress bar has moved fractionally but still ‘processing’ and estimated issue 18/5!

Like I said, just ignore the progress bar. It never ever worked for one day since the introduction of the online application... You can always track the actual progress by chatting to the passport staff during work hours on DFA website.

Thanks, that’s worth knowing. Luckily, I’m not in a rush, but it just shows how pointless the progress bar really is. The only use it’s been is that at least I know they’ve safely received my paperwork. :|

I will need a passport (either new or existing) by early July and for some reason I think I may not get it by that time. My estimated date shows 31st of May, I think I'll try to contact them via chat in the first week of June to see if there's any progress or if they somehow could "scan" my existing passport into system and return it.

I've read the whole thread here, which has a lot of valuable info regarding the process.

I wish they could give finer details regarding the backlog of applications, would be nice to know our "number" in the queue to be processed, if there's any! :)

If anyone knows are we still @ level 5 lockdown here in Ireland ? Some one told me the passport office will process 1st time passport application when lockdown will be at level 4 and in his opinion we are still in level 5 lockdown, a little confusion on this issue.

It's still 'Level 5' but the number itself is no longer making any sense now. The whole country is being reopened sector by sector. You could travel to other counties and non-essential shops are open, so similar to Level 3 in the original definition.

Nevertheless, passport services have been classified as an essential service so it has restarted since last month.

Just chat to them now. Their webchat services aren't that busy. They should absolutely be able to scan your passport and return it in a day or two. I think I wrote a letter & chatted to them online to request my passport back on Wednesday, and I got it back on Friday.

Had a chat with them just now and asked them if they could scan my documents and return them to me, they said the documents haven't been scanned yet and it might take a week or two for them to be scanned into system. They suggested me to contact them again later and ask for the original documents once they are scanned.

Has any one 1st time applicant got their passport recently applied in the start of May?
Or any update from passport office.

The only update I've received is that paper applications are being processed now :)

Applied in April. Showing expected date of may 27 but I think it will be June end or July beginning when it will be issued

Not sure how are they planning on "clearing the backlog" by the end of June (6-8 weeks) if no passports (seemingly) were issued for first time applicants since reopening. I'd expect them to at least process some of the applications and print some of the passports, unless they are "processing" all of them and then send to printing, which is very unlikely.

Checked in with chat reps just now - documents still not scanned :?

Same experience for me, on website it was saying 31st. Chat Rep said tracker should be ignored, why to have useless tracking
Asked about scanning yesterday as well, not scanned yet although they received Docs on 1st of July.

Quite agree. Still waiting. Online application completed 23/12/20 documentation sent 18/3/21. Estimated completion 18/5/21. Progress bar been to the end and then back to 3/4 full - where it’s remained for the past 10 days - and I’m a very straightforward applicant. My mother was born Ireland so I’m automatically an Irish citizen. Goodness knows what it’s like for those who have more complex situations. Oh well, I’m not going anywhere for the foreseeable future anyway.

It looks like the chat is closed and the same for the phone lines, they just given up on those.
I think 10 weeks is quite optimistic. It looks like they want to process documents that they received prior May and then go for other applications.

"The Passport Service is continuing to process Passport Online applications. Our priority is to process all Passport Online applications received prior to 29 April within 6-8 weeks."

so they start processing those May documents most likely in July and it might take some time.

I wonder what does the "applications received" mean here, is it applications created (thus received) before 29th of April or the receipt of the supporting documentation prior to that date? I applied back in February but sent supporting documents in early May.

Also I'm wondering what will be their next message when 6-8 weeks is going to be over, atm in Twitter they use the copypasta text claiming to clear out the backlog in 6-8 weeks since the beginning of May.

There's some hope for receiving our first time passports sooner than later, someone on another forum confirmed that their status has changed to printing yesterday. They applied back in Feb and submitted documents in early May with an estimated issue date of 25th of May - so roughly two weeks past estimated date.

I hope they will process by the end summer.
Did they received they originals prior to the printing status? As per my understanding of the process, they first check what is inside envelope, then scan originals and send back to you, after that process/check and then print.

Unless you ask them, they won't send you the originals until some later date. My wife received hers last year and first she received the new Irish passport, then originals after a week or two, then the passport card.

I had a similar experience it was showing an estimate of 27/5 and today it’s showing printing. Did anyone got their passport yet.

Not yet.

Has anyone actually received theirs whilst still the progress bar is showing processing and not even got to printing? Mine is STILL just showing processing despite an estimate of 18/5. :( :( :(
