Forgot to say the time was a little over two months for us.

I sent my application and all documents off in November 2017. Received email on 29 March saying that I should apply to the Inter-country adoption. So now going down that route. I had thought that because my grandfather was born in Ireland and my mother was born in the UK (never applied for Irish passport) that I would have to go down the FBR route, there is nothing on the FBR pages stating that if you are adopted into a family that you need to go through the Inter-country adoption which I had never heard of until being contacted by Dublin.

So I now have no idea how long the Intercountry-Adoption will take, luckily I had all the information and documents they needed (although I had to apply for another copy of my marriage and birth certificate (adoption), my wonderful parents had given me previously all the adoption documents so that saved sometime.

Has anyone else had this happen and had to go down this route?

Can you post the language used? I am trying to learn what the various phrases may signify. Did you ask for a status? Or did this "advanced stage" status come unsolicited? Post your timeline; how long after they got your documents/application did you move to ""advanced stage""?

I need some advice and feel that this is t he right place to ask for one.

I am a naturalised Irish citizen, currently working in UK. We decided to give a birth in Russia, where my wife is from. The baby is due in late May.

We need to get back to UK where I have a job starting from September lined up. My wife and I can travel frilly and directly to UK. It appears that the baby, though, will not be Irish until formally entered on FBR. Before that, the baby will be solely Russian national.

My concern that we have 3 months for getting into FBR and getting a passport. The superficial skin of the thread indicates this is not enough. Can you please suggest any other solutions, beyond applying for UK visa for an infant on the Russian passport while initiating the FBR process? What I am really asking is whether the infant can obtain an Irish passport quicker than the current FBR avenue suggests?

If it helps, Rcrowley32 (his/her post on the previous page) indicates it took 2 months for the children's applications to be approved. The passport process is, of course, an entirely different matter.

For what it's worth, here's my timeline to date:

January 29, 2018: After after paying for and submitting my application online, I sent my completed online application with documents to the Consular Office in Dublin.
January 31, 2018: My application was received by the Consular Office in Dublin.
March 8, 2018: After requesting information if I could track the status of my application online, I received am email confirming receipt and a note that it takes 4 to 6 months to process the application and that no online tracking was available.
March 20, 2018: I received an email requesting additional documentation. Specifically, I needed my passport photos witnessed on the back and I needed to submit a certified copy of my marriage certificate. Why the latter request, I'm not sure since my name has never changed since birth.
March 22, 2018: I sent the requested documents.
March 27, 2018: I got an email confirmation that my documents were received along with the following message: "I have submitted the application forward for approval. The rest of the process will take 2-3 months to complete due to a large backlog that we are experiencing."

So, now I wait. I'll post a message when I get any further updates.

Current timeline.

Email confirmation on 13/02/2018 confirming documents have been received. 23/07/2018 my wife's due date for our first child. I am applying through my Grandfather and we are hoping that I make the FBR before baby is born so I can pass Irish citizenship down the line.

I applied for my one year old baby in January 2017 and they asked me for more documents in May 2017 which I sent them within a week , since then I am waiting , IA asked them few times they said we are processing it , its 14 months now and I don,t expect anything at least before 6 months and I also know few people who are suffering from exact same situation with same circumstances .

Its g disgraceful and inhuman how they treat the babies born abroad.

I know It’s horrible!!
I feel sorry for my child not having her parents beside her, but what can we do? We are both working here.

I emailed them today and was told I’ll be getting a decision by end of May 2018. Hopefully they will stick with their word. I dunno what else aee they checking.

I know how difficult it is as I have applied for my little daughter in January 2017 and still no chance of outcome.

Successful timeline - applying through a grandparent.

Online Application submitted: 05.11.2017
Documents submitted directly to Ireland (as advised by the NYC consulate): 07.01.2018
Documents received in Ireland: 12.01.2018
Email with citizenship confirmation received: 20.04.2018

No additional documents required. Called to Ireland after about a month to confirm documents had been received. They said that currently applications weren't taking as long any more. 3 months in this case!

Absolutely delighted to be able to update my completed timeline now for my two children. Really feel for those of you still waiting (longer than us in some cases).
Posted off the forms and documentation Monday 16th October 2017
Heard nothing until an email on Monday 26th February asking for my witness to email them from their work email confirming that they know my children. This was done the next day.
They confirmed they had received this a couple of days later and I had no further contact until I got a Royal Mail card through my door on Tuesday 17th April that I had a letter to sign for. This turned out to be the certificates and all our documentation, and passport forms for us to apply for passports. So ours returned to us in 6 months to the day after they received it in London.
We were lucky that it was easy to show the lineage through birth/marriage certificates so I think our case was straightforward. Good luck to everyone in the process.

Hello, I'm hoping that this is an OK place to post this question.

I'm applying for Foreign Birth Registration through my Irish grandmother and I have all the documentation needed (birth certificates, passports, marriage certificates etc) except for three proofs of my residence in the UK.

On the FBR application form, it says that I need to submit "Three separate documents showing proof of Residence in the UK e.g. phone bill, gas/electricity bill, council tax, water rates , bank statements etc."

This "etc" is really bothering me. I don't have a phone bill (no landline), or a gas/electricity/water bill as I live in a shared house and the bills are paid through my housemate's account.

I currently have a bank statement from my current account; a certified copy of my driving licence which has my current address printed on it; and I've requested a statement from the Student Loans Company to be sent to my current address. Is this sufficient, or do I need more documentation? I'm worried that the driving licence doesn't count because it's not an original document and that the SLC letter might not count either because it's not listed as explicitly acceptable.

Other documents that I have are:
- a bank statement from my savings account -- but this might be no use because it's with the same bank as my current account
- a copy of my tenancy agreement with the letting agent for my current address
- a letter from my mobile phone network provider -- I think this is explicitly excluded as a proof?
- my poll card for the upcoming local elections -- which should be proof that I'm on the electoral register, but again isn't listed as such

Other documents that I could get hold of are:
- a letter from HMRC with a summary of my NI contributions from the last few years -- by requesting one to check number of eligible years of NI contributions
- possibly a council tax bill -- I've explicitly told the local council where I live for council tax purposes, but they aren't in the habit of sending letters frequently. I might be able to request one but I'm not totally sure.

What combination of these documents is likely to meet the criteria for "proof of Residence in the UK?" I've requested clarification through the FBR query form, but it has a 250 character limit, so I couldn't ask a very precise question.

Any help would be amazing!

Ill help you out...You are on teh right track, the proof of residency appears , to be the only thing they may compromise on, in this whole process,IF you cover it well.... I was in exactly the same situation as you, provided doctors letter, HMRC, Bank, a few more, my lease as well, and a letter to why I cant provide council tax etc, as its included in my rent...however, for all the documents and ,copys, witness etc etc, do it to the LETTER, do not miss, or compromise on one thing...

Hopefully Im nearly there, I had to very recently provide one more document to Dublin,which they should get soon, but communications have been good, since it was requested.

You may no hear much for 5 months, if you ask for updates , before this time, you may not hear, or a courteous email. good luck

Thank you @caferacer! That's very helpful to know that there is some flexibility about the proof of residence. I think I'll get the HMRC letter and then include all of the weaker proofs that I have as well, with a cover letter to explain why I don't have the more obvious ones.

Background, in case it helps:
My husband (Scottish, in Scotland) submitted his application in October 2017. In November they requested one additional document, which we mailed within a week. It has been under review since December 2017.

We moved flats at the beginning of March. Husband emailed the embassy and also send them a letter to notify them about the change of address. Since we moved within the same small building, our "usual" postman dropped off some of the mail that took a while to change address at our new flat number. So all in all, it seems unlikely that we did not get my husband's documents back.
However, they had a couple of things fixed downstairs so if we had a different postman than usual delivering the documents and the builders/painters signed for it, they might be at our old address. The agency we rented from was useless when they still got money from us so I doubt they'll actually forward any mail the way they are meant to.

I am officially Irish now

My timeline:

started document gathering second week of December and took 3 weeks to pull it all together.
completed and sent in application and fee charged to cc January 8
documents sent and tracked and received in Dublin January 12
I sent an email using web asking for for document complete and status March 11
reply from Dublin application was in "final approval" process -could take 8-10 weeks March 23
package arrived April 24 with certificate dated April 10 and "congratulation" letter March 18

I had no questions, no requests for more documents, no check with app certifier.

Start to finish was 3 months, and 2 weeks to send/recieve the certificate. I am in Texas

Next step is to get my Irish passport

I’m just gathering my documents for my FBR and I’ve got them all. I’ve read that the copies need to notiarized? I’ve photocopied them on the printer. Is this okay to send or Do I need to get someone to sign that they are a true copy before I send them?
