Re: Foreign Birth Registration documents required

Greetings.

I wonder if anyone reading this can help me with the following:

I am a Brit, born and raised in England applying to register my foreign birth in Ireland prior to applying for an Irish passport due to Brexit.

My maternal grandmother was born in Ireland (Wexford). Neither of my parents were born in Ireland/N. Ireland, and they have not registered their births (which were both in England) in Ireland.

My question is in regard to the Documents relating to the Irish citizen parent (my mother) I have to provide with my application.

I have the required birth and marriage certificates so my question is only in regard to the ‘Photocopy of current state-issued ID document (i.e. passport, drivers licence, national identity card) certified as a true copy of the original by a professional from the list of witnesses’ for my Mother which I have to provide.

She has neither a passport (and is too old and infirm to attend the require interview to get one of these) or a drivers licence and so I have been looking into getting a national identity card for her.

I note from the Gov.uk web-site that UK government national identity cards were scrapped in 2011, but I have found that there is something called a CitizenCard

On the CitizenCard web-site it says: “A CitizenCard is an official UK ID / proof of age card recognised as such by the Home Office, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute and almost all UK retailers and public transport providers including UK airlines. The adult 18+ photo ID card displays the police and the Security Industry Authority logos and all CitizenCards bear the PASS hologram.”

My question is: If I arrange to get a CitizenCard for my Mother will a certified copy of this meet the Foreign Birth Registration application ‘national identity card’ requirement relating to my Mother?

Many thanks in anticipation.
If you phone the FBR helpline, they will go through the options with you. When I was applying, I was in the same situation, my grandparent didn't have any current ID I could make a copy of.
I spoke to the FBR people, who advised me I could provide instead a letter from the family member's GP confirming that due to age and ill health, they are unlikely to renew or obtain a new ID.
GPs will often require a small fee for writing this letter, but it shouldn't be too difficult to obtain.
As I said, check with the FBR helpline, every case is different.

I also couldn't login with my original profile or even reset my password (Brexit Irishman). So I created a new account!

I'm an April 2019 (late April) applicant. No word yet from Dublin. Although when I called them before Christmas they said April 2020 would be realistic.

Hoping Corona virus doesn't slow things down too much!

Thanks very much, that's a great help. i phoned the FBR helpline and they confirmed I could get a GP letter as you suggested and so I will pursue this now.

On the previous page there was one application from the start of April accepted, so it'll be getting closer for you I'm sure.
I too am concerned about corona virus affecting application times, just have to hope the situation doesn't get too out of hand that public services like FBR will be scaled back or closed.

@mayrob
Congrats on receiving your Irish Passport the day before St Patrick’s Day!!☘️

I’m eagerly awaiting an update on my FBR Irish Citizenship application, it’s been almost 10 months since they confirmed receipt of all my documents. I hope that I will soon receive the physical mailing address verification email soon. I was hoping to have my Irish Citizenship and Irish Passport by St Patrick’s Day, that will not happen.
I will initiate the Passport process as soon as my FBR Certificate and Original documents are received at my home in the USA.

Good for ya,mayorob! Happy St Patrick's Day to ya.Alas, CoVID-19 will surely delay application processing so I'll probably be waiting a wee bit longer now but such is life.

Congratulations! Happy St. Patrick's Day indeed! I'm hoping COVID-19 won't throw too much a monkey wrench in -- I got my documents received e-mail on Sept 5 2019, and expect to hear sometime this summer (fingers crossed). :D

I think you're going to be waiting quite a long time yet. Applications were taking at least 11 months, but I presume with the serious measures against the spread of covid-19 that Ireland are taking, I'd be surprised if it isn't a few months yet until you hear anything. Schools are closed, pubs are closed, people are losing jobs. It's mental over there. I can't see them wasting resources on processing applications at the moment.

Hi again!
My sister mailed me her application docs as I will be the one assembling our materials. Few quick questions:
1) her notarized passport copy was done by a different notary than her app/photo witness? Does it absolutely have to be the same person on all three items?
2) her photos have a light blue background.. deal breaker?
As her pregnancy clock is ticking down, I want to make sure I have everything correct the first go around! Thanks ☺️

I'd say the photos won't be good enough. Now they put one of the FBR certificate. Must be neutral background-white or cream-I don't think blue will be accepted. But just my opinion.
Since you'd get photos resigned/dated /stamped I'd redo the rest. They might say they're okay but why wait & wonder when you can change it now.
Just make sure you write on the outside of package that it's for "expedited processing needed due to pregnancy" in large letters.

@MKCG
Yes they will send you an email when they receive your hard copy application with all supporting docunents you provided. Then the waiting game fun begins you won’t receive another email from them for like 10-11 months.
It’s almost 10 months for me now!
Congrats on taking the first step!!

No confirmation email as yet.
the tracker on AnPost doesn’t pick up my Royal Mail tracker number . the Royal Mail tracking stops at a London airport.

I’m assuming corona has something to do with the delay

When did you send the application and where from? I recently sent off my passport application and had the same issue at the Langley hwdc, seemed to get stuck there for a few days and scanned every morning approx 0330 saying it was on it's way to ireland. Eventually took about 8 days to get there. Now I'm not sure if the passport office are still open and whether there are flights operating for mail to receive my passport. Not like I can travel anywhere just now even if I wanted to.

This may be a bit of a silly question but I'm just wondering if the FBR offices are currently closed on Ireland due to COVID-19. I applied to the FBR in August of 2019 and I'm just curious if it will be longer then a 12 month wait due to this crisis - if anyone has any information please share

Thanks

I posted it on the Tuesday just before the last post pick of the day, international tracked, from Glasgow. Ye leaving Langley hwdc at 4am on Wednesday is still the last record of it. It’s still not on ANPost tracker as of 6.30 this morn

I suppose it’s slightly reassuring that you’ve had the same issue
Cheers

Sounds about right. I posted from edinburgh and it was picked up right away and saw it tracking out of edinburgh down to langley that day. Posted on a tuesday and only saw it on anpost the following tuesday, the day it was delivered.
Hope the mail flights at least continue! Good luck with the application

I don't think it is a silly question. I am an April 2019 applicant so mine should have come through any day, so this is painful. On the flip side, even with an FBR, doesn't look like I could move to Europe in the next couple months as I had intended....

In any case, I called the FBR line yesterday to inquire and it went straight to a recorded message directing you to the website, which was not the case previously. So it may indeed be closed.

New list with recent updates.

Due to the lock-down conditions that are now current in many parts of the world (including the Irish Republic) I doubt there will be much progress anytime soon for any applicants. The FBR office appears to be closed, which is hardly an unanticipated outcome given the severity of the situation.

Everyone now has something bigger in life to worry about than FBR inclusion timelines. Let me just say that I have spend the last 3 months in China and been through this virus from the start to the end. I have gone through 2 months of enforced lock-down (not quarantine) which prevented me from even leaving my home here. Everything was closed down, akin to what is underway elsewhere now. Throughout the entire time, essential services continued to run, food supplies were readily available and internet delivery of almost everything continued uninterrupted. Right now in China,we are coming out from under the shadow of this illness, the restrictions on movement have been lifted and the shops are all open again. Usually, I would be moving on, but in this instance there isn't really anywhere to move on to that is safer or even as safe.

Anyway, I hope everyone here gets through this without too much hardship. To that end, I have waived / refunded all rents for Q1 and Q2 on all commercial and residential properties that I own - including those in the UK, Italy and Ireland. I would urge anyone else here to help others out if they are able to. Remember there is light (and FBR inclusion) at the end of the tunnel.
