Fantastic news from you all.

I also had the same issues regarding my Irish mother’s birth never having been registered. My son is applying through descent. I had her baptism certificate and applied to have her birth ‘late registered’ The application form had to be witnessed by a JP or similar. Once confirmation was received that she had been registered, I just applied for the certificate through the usual channels.

So pleased to hear things are moving. My son’s application was received and acknowledged 15 July 2019 so it’s getting closer! Fingers crossed that it all goes through. We checked and rechecked the documentation about 10 times before we posted it off. I even sorted my mother’s, mine and my sons paperwork into three separate transparent folders to try and make the paper trail as clear as possible!

Were you an online or paper applicant? Hopefully you get it soon!
Online. I did the online part the same day I got the address confirmation email (27th July) as I got a friend to take a picture of me on her phone and uploaded it straight away, then printed the forms and got my mate that's a teacher to sign them along with a photocopy of my passport. Then when my FBR certificate arrived (4tg August) I chucked it straight into an envelope with that stuff and a couple of utility bills and went straight to the post office. Arrived 10th August and my online tracker changed from "Alert -
On hold, pending receipt of documentation" to "Processing application" the next day, and gave me a date of 8th September, which it's been on since.

Hi! Quick question. Do I have to wait to receive my certificate before I can apply for passport online? Or can I just go right ahead?

You can do it straight away but they won't start processing anything until you send the supporting documents. It's worth doing in advance though because you need a witness for the form so you can get that all filled in and signed off before your FBR arrives.

Congratulations to everyone who has got their certificates recently. I'm still a long way back in the queue (or more precisely my children are) but, to help pass the time I've been noting the waits.

Based on those who've given dates starting the in Covid period the average wait from confirmation or receipt to confirmation of address (basically the dates that are entirely in their control) the average wait is 473 days when you exclude the expedited applications. This has ranged from 451-483 days, but doesn't really seem to be any pattern or trend. The certificates are usually received 2-3 weeks after that but I suspect that delay is more a function of how quickly the address is confirmed and locations as anything.

Looks like a long wait for many of us!

Thanks for the stats Batman. Going by those averages I still have about 150 days to go

Question: my application was received last November. My brother's now talking about applying too. Is there any way he can piggyback on my application, seeing as sibling applications can be done together, or will he have to wait until I'm done and have the documents back to hand over to him?

Thanks in advance.

It has been a long old haul, but finally I have confirmation that my children have been added to the FBR. This board has been great help as you 'slowly' see the submission dates tick by and births being added.

Here are mine:

Application submitted online: 15 April 2019
Email acknowledging receipt of documents (Balbriggan): 28th May 2019
Confirmation of address email: 18th September 2020
Date added to FBR: 28th Sept 2020
Congrats email: 28th Sept 2020
FBR certificate received: Pending

Interestingly my Date added/Congrats email (being the same email) said 'A certificate has now been printed and posted to the address'.

Good luck everyone and remember, you will get there eventually.

Not wanting to lower your expectations. I contacted them
Via web chat - my documents were received on 29/04/2020 and they told me they’ll be in touch in April 2021 meaning they probably won’t start looking at it till then, sit tight ;)

The wee countdown timer atop my computer monitor now reads 430 days (I took 456 days or 15 months as the starting point). Tick tock!

Can anyone who's successfully received their passport confirm whether I have to send my original passport in with my application? Or is a certified copy ok?

On the ID verification form it says, "Please note: If resident outside of the State, certified copies of ID are accepted. A copy can be certifed by a police officer, a solicitor, the witness who signs your Identity Verifcation Form, or by the issuing authority."

Then later it asks for "Original passport from country of birth"

Hi Everyone,

I have been following and participating with this thread/group for some time and I finally have some good news, so I thought I would share my current status/timeline.

After 484 days, Or 1 year, 3 months, 26 days, Or after 15 months, 26 days I am excited to provide an update!!!

Yes, Brexit and COVID-19 greatly affected the original 6 month processing time we were notified of during the application process and further a record of over 29,000 FBR applications were received in 2019. All of these challenges allowed FBR to streamline Operations, implement new systems and hire/train additional staff to support this process.

I am thankful for this group/thread as it allowed each and everyone one of us to communicate, question, learn and assist each other about the process as well as the availability to monitor the progress of FBR processing by sharing each of our experiences/application milestones and dates. I feel blessed and very thankful to all, We are the World and soon we will all be Irish Citizens too! I can't believe that I am now an Irish citizen, it will be realistic when that FBR certificate is in my hands.

Thank you all!

BTW, I had a web chat with the FBR at 6:00 am this morning after I received/responded to the mailing address verification email, the representative mentioned to me that there is a 2 week backlog in the printing/mailing of the FBR Certificates and associated Original documents. Further, I was advised that the FBR Certificate and all Original documents will be returned in one package.
Hooray I am Officially an Irish Citizen and have my FBR Certificate in my hands, it was received minutes ago! Hmm maybe a Guinness to celebrate tonight and then tomorrow start the Paper Application First Time Irish Passport Application Process. 🇨🇮☘️🇺🇸

Passport and documents received in USA/NJ -Pending

Hey LA8887, has your passport been dispatched yet? Mine was posted yesterday. My application was only received in Ireland 9 working days ago.
