Can anyone who's successfully received their passport confirm whether I have to send my original passport in with my application? Or is a certified copy ok?

On the ID verification form it says, "Please note: If resident outside of the State, certified copies of ID are accepted. A copy can be certifed by a police officer, a solicitor, the witness who signs your Identity Verifcation Form, or by the issuing authority."

Then later it asks for "Original passport from country of birth"
Very good question, I’ve been wondering exactly the same thing.

Congrats email received today says my certificate has been printed/posted.

Application submitted online: 16 June 2019
Email acknowledging receipt of documents (Balbriggan): 01 July 2019
Confirmation of address email: 24 September 2020
Date added to FBR: Pending
Congrats email: 01 October 2020
FBR certificate received: Pending
This is good news! I calculate this as 450 days , so just a bit lower than JuniorBatman’s 451-483 range from Receipt of Documentation to Confirmation of email. This is the first time I’ve heard any action from a date AFTER my Receipt of Documentation on June 20, 2019, yet still no word. Curious if the process out of order or some just take longer. Hoping to hear soon...

I was wondering that too. If memory serves, there were several people from June 2019. I expected to wait at least another 1-2 months. My case was straightforward -- no red flags or clarifications, but I suspect that's true for many.
Best of luck. I hope you hear something soon. :)

I made a colour photocopy of my British passport and got my witness to sign it and stamp it et and sent it off to Ireland. I've had confirmation that they've posted my Irish passport back to me now so there were no problems with sending a notarised copy.

Hey LA8887, has your passport been dispatched yet? Mine was posted yesterday. My application was only received in Ireland 9 working days ago.
No, still on the processing stage. I guess I'll get in touch on Monday and see what the holdup is.

Just been on the webchat because it turns out it's still open at this time on a Friday afternoon and they said there's no holdup or problem with the application or anything, and it's progressing through the system. Not sure why it's taken so long in that case.

The wee countdown timer atop my computer monitor now reads 430 days (I took 456 days or 15 months as the starting point). Tick tock!

Am I going to have to start being a bit more consistent in collecting and reporting these stats?!

The current average is 469 days which is a bit lower than before, but there aren't a huge number of data points and I suspect people who are eager enough to be on this board are unlikely to be a representative sample!

If you go into the not too distant past on this thread Sulla was very good at collating everyone's timelines and putting them all into one post. It seems Sulla is no longer active here so you might be taking on his mantle!

Has anyone who sent their application in the last few months received the email acknowledging receipt of documents yet?

After a torturous MONTH in the post, mine arrived on Monday.

My address confirmation came through! Updates on application:

Confirmation of documents: 27 May 2019
Confirmation of address email: 24 September 2020
Congrats email: pending
Receipt certificate: pending

Nearly 16 months later!
Update:

Confirmation of documents: 27 May 2019
Confirmation of address email: 24 September 2020
Congrats email: 29 September 2020
Receipt certificate: pending

16 months and 2 days after they received my docs I’m registered!
And final update: certificate received today, 3 October 2020, showing entry on 24 September 2020

Will start gathering updated docs for the passport application now!

Thanks to everyone posting on here the last 16 months, it’s been a great resource to track progress.

Good luck!

A witnessed copy is fine, I sent my documents earlier this year and received my Irish passport back without problem. Do note that your supporting documents are held by the DFA for 4 weeks after your passport is dispatched.

I mailed my application in late February and the documents arrived in early March according to USPS. I have not received an email acknowledging their receipt. However, the FAQs on the website indicate that no email will be sent for receipt of documents. So perhaps the policy has recently changed?

I am still trying to connect with webchat, every time I try the agents are busy.

I have a vague recollection of that when I was waiting for my passport (I was stuck in the Brexit rush) and used to prowl through here. I did start going back to collect data but there was such an obvious impact on wait from Covid I didn't see any point in just highlighting to myself that it would all have been done if I'd been a bit more on the ball!

There are probably lots of factors to consider, I daresay some applications are more straightforward than others, people whose grandparents did have birth registrations, for example. In my imagination I can also see variation just because they are paper applications and the way they work through them. When you think about the volume and the delay it's probably impossible to keep them all in strict date order and I can see how they might just have, say, a box that gets filled and when the time comes to process there's a bit of randomness on when your's gets pulled out.

If my math is correct then Day 469 for me would be this Thursday Oct 8th. My guesstimate-- just from what I've read on this thread-- has had me thinking just after Oct 20th. The wait continues......!!

Yes, I received email from noreply@dfat.ie a day after the documents were confirmed as delivered by Royal Mail and An Post. That was around 5 weeks ago.

"Your application for Irish citizenship through entry on the Foreign Births Register has now been received.

Information in relation to current processing timelines can be found on our webpage www.dfa.ie/citizenship/born-abroad/regi ... ign-birth/

Please do not reply to this email as it is auto-generated."

Hi everyone, :D

I've been lurking on this board for a while, soaking up the useful info whilst I got my documents together. Finally sent them off so wanted to offically add myself to the queue (woohoo!):

Application submitted online: 01 September 2020
Email acknowledging receipt of documents (Balbriggan): 28 Sept 2020
Confirmation of address email: TBD
Date added to FBR: TBD
Congrats email: TBD
FBR certificate received: TBD

Based on other posts I think I'll be back here Jan 2021 with more news!
Not wanting to lower your expectations. I contacted them
Via web chat - my documents were received on 29/04/2020 and they told me they’ll be in touch in April 2021 meaning they probably won’t start looking at it till then, sit tight ;)
Oops! Got my dates wrong. I meant Jan 2022! My expectations are well and truly on the floor, believe me :D

The tracking number shows some activity now: the package left Dublin Mail Centre on Saturday morning. Hoping it will arrive in Oregon this week. The Guinness is waiting.

Can't believe it but just got my address confirmation e-mail through

Online Application Submitted: 4th June 2019
Application received in Balbriggan/Acknowledgement E-mail: 8th July 2019
Confirmation of Address E-mail: 5th October 2020

Was not expecting to hear for another month-no idea how they're doing it now, I did get in touch with FBR webchat last week to ask for an update but doubt that had much of an influence. Perhaps because I paid the fee early in June 2019 is the reason why I've heard now.

Hope everyone else on this forum hears very soon and also I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone on this thread for keeping my sanity in tact for the past year over this, otherwise I would have gone mad.

It would appear my journey is at an end. My passport arrived today.

Application submitted online: 26 June 2019
Email acknowledging receipt of documentation Balbriggan: 02 July 2019
Confirmation of address email: 03 September 2020 (Expedited due to pregnancy)
Date added to FBR: 03 September 2020
Congrats email: 14 September 2020
FBR certificate received: 18 September 2020
Passport application submitted/posted: 18 September 2020
Passport supporting documents received: 22 September 2020
Passport Posted: 30 September 2020
Passport received: 5 October 2020

My supporting documents were not posted back with my passport so I guess they'll arrive separately.

Nice to see the actual passport application going through quickly. Thanks so much to everyone for you moral support throughout these months. It has been extremely comforting to know what others were experiencing.

Hi everyone,

Long time lurker. Figured I'd put my info in the queue to help gauge timelines :) I actually submitted my online application and paid my fee in March 2019, but I didn't get around to submitting my docs until December 2019. I attached an explanation letter with my documents to clarify that none of the information had changed since my online application, and it hasn't seemed to cause any issues yet.

Application submitted online: March 2019
Documents sent by mail: 04 December 2019
Email acknowledging receipt of documentation: 07 January 2020
Confirmation of address email: pending
Date added to FBR: pending
Congrats email: pending
FBR certificate received: pending

Fingers crossed for spring/summer 2021!
