Congratulations! :D Sounds like it's taken about 18 months to agree it. All that remains is the certificate. It is interesting that people are saying they have received an email confirming receipt of documents. I haven't, and it says on their website that they do not send any confirmation of receipt, hence they must have changed their policy on this. This is my point, it's the communication from them that is so poor - and virtually nonexistent. This HAS to change and that is why I raised a petition on change dot org calling on the Taoiseach to please urgently review and overhaul the Foreign Birth Registration process.
They probably aren’t sending the emails confirming receipt of documents because they have asked applicants to not send them in right now due to the pandemic.
“ Please do not send supporting documentation as these cannot be processed at this time.”

It might be interesting to add the FBR team to these posts. There seem to be a number of successful posters mentioning FBR Team 6; those mentioning FBR Team 1 seem to be reporting extended delays after confirming addresses rather than any further action.

My documentation was received 19 August 2019 (email and postal confirmation). No reported activity since then.

i sent another email to the embassy (austin) this morning which received this reply

“Thank you for your email.

The FBR office is still closed, but some of the staff that check the documentation have returned, so it seems they are slowly starting to reopen!

I can only imagine how anxious you are to receive your certificate of citizenship. Do not hesitate to reach out again for an update.”

prettttyyyyy nothingy. what i am wondering (and asked) is if the office is closed for the third time since covid with this current closure time being six months, are those six months factored into the 12-18 month waiting period or is it piling onto the waiting period?
I agree - if this reply doesn't say anything, what's the point to asking for an update.

I view the 12-18 month waiting period skeptically, and don't see how it can possibly include the 6+ months of the current closure. When I applied (mid Aug 2019), the email receipt mentioned "up to 6 months" and the website said 6-9 months, while everyone on this board reported about 12 months. Going by twice their minimum, I'd expect a good 2 years (before delays) for new applications since they haven't officially reopened and some teams don't seem to be back to work yet.

Killdarestreet.com has periodic posts from Simon Coveney (head of FBR). The May backlog is 30,000 applications, up from 27,000 at the beginning of March.

On a more surreal note, the March 3 post said a major factor in the delay was review of paper submissions to protect applicants' privacy. Virtually all of these records (birth, marriage, death, even address for home owners) are public records that need to be certified by issuing governments, they are not private at all. When I ordered records, there was no requirement that they pertain to me or a family member.

May 26 - DFA can't backdate to accommodate recent births, 30,000 backlog

Looks like Simon Coveney is head of the Dept of Foreign Affairs, not just the FBR. Either way, had to argue with his point that DFA doesn't have authority to change the requirements, only the Dept. of Justice, so expectant parents should ask for expedited processing.

What I noticed: if your application has all documents scanned into the system, then the administrative matter can be easily addressed. If physical documents or (baby photos for example) are yet to be checked, or needed, then your application is not touched at all. This might be due to the fact that they are not physically in the office and/or running their admin work remotely (from home). I applied for my son way earlier and all papers are in order and with zero complexity, yet no answer from them: Im expecting them to say: give me new photos for the baby as they do that to all under 2 years old applicants.. so wont expect an answer before end of summer (I checked with them and they clearly said we plan to open end of summer).

I do not like the indifferent way these applications are handled. The tedious delays are compounded by an almost total absence of communication that is unacceptable. They are working with virtually no sense of urgency and are utterly disconnected from the lives they are ruining as they take the art of procrastination to a higher plane. Frankly they are taking the p i s s! FBR is not of act of charity, it is a legal entitlement for those who qualify and a not insignificant fee is paid, not to mention the expense of researching and obtaining the necessary documents.

You applied for FBR 2 weeks ago in the hope of taking up a job offer you'd already got which would require you to have Irish/EU citizenship. You are now very upset that they're not going to allow you to jump in front of everyone else in the queue on the grounds that your paperwork was exceptionally neat, complete and well-presented. The fact is: other than working yourself into a fury, you're not going to change anything by whining - you left it way too late and there was never any chance you were going to be able to take that job. However, there are two positives you can take from this: (1) you would never have got that job even if Brexit or Covid had never happened - expecting a citizenship claim to be processed in a few weeks is just unrealistic, regardless of which country or by which route (2) The staff at DFA are, thankfully, not as disorganised/entitled as you are, i.e. leaving your application disastrously late and then writing to the Queen of England and expecting us to sign a petition to allow you to jump the queue. If they were, then the waiting time for FBR would be more like 20 years, if they hadn't already accidentally burned down their offices.

---- Hi all, registered for this website after many weeks of pondering and waiting.

Called Ireland a couple of times and have checked the FBR site but it never seems to be updated with any info, an idiots guide to the process would be great or a YouTube video or something.

--Paid for FBR November 29th 2020
--Posted all documents 27th December 2020
--Heard nothing at all since sending documents, not even had a notification that my registered post letter has been received and its now 23rd June.

What is the process as heard nothing/zilch and nothing on their website. Do you get an email along the lines of saying 'Thanks we have your application but please be patient as we have a serious backlog due to brexit etc'.....

1 - Would be great if someone could tell the rough process
2- Also when are they restarting FBR processing? Some rough date would be good to know
3 - Likely timescale of when it will be processed (back of a fag packet educated guess would be great)

I totally understand the policy of lockdown etc that the Irish government has taken. Happy to wait in line but some information on well...anything would be good.

Any feedback on this post would be brilliant - Wish everyone the best.

The rough process is that you apply, they acknowledge receipt of your application and documentation, you wait (up to 2 years at present rate), they contact you if anything in your application needs clarifying/updating, otherwise you are asked to confirm current address, you are entered in to the register and finally you receive your FBR certificate and original documents by post.

The queue of FBR applications is something like 30,000 according to a recent statement in the Irish parliament but there was a suggestion that they might allocate additional resources to clear the backlog, much as they've done for pending passport applications. The FBR section has either been closed or only partially working throughout the Coronavirus pandemic but they are doing some work now and the last I read, they hope to be up and running by the end of summer. The most recent lockdown recovery plan I've seen is here: https://www.gov.ie/en/press-release/789 ... ath-ahead/

The best way to track your progress is to watch this thread, where those who gain entry on to the register will often post their timeline. As each application is different, though, some people wait longer that others but you'll get at least some idea of where you are in the system. I saw a recent post from a successful applicant who had applied in September 2019, so that's perhaps about where we are.

Good luck!

My 1st-time paper passport application is finally showing a status of "Processing" in the Passport Tracker. However, the estimated issue date is 17 months away. Really hoping the system will recalibrate and shorten that time estimate. Good luck to all who are waiting.

Confirmation of address email: 24 September 2020
Date added to FBR: 25 September 2020
Congrats email: 01 October 2020
FBR certificate received: 20 October 2020

Passport:
Application/docs received by Consulate (SF): 18 January 2021
Passport Tracker status: Processing (as of 21 June 2021)

I'm inferring the lack of response means mine must not have been scanned or otherwise checked. Aside from children under 2, are you aware of any other way to tell if items have been entered or otherwise processed?

Yes, 30k applications to be cleared. If you never lived in Ireland before, its hard to understand why public servants are so slow and only ramp up when you talk to them in person. Its a common practice in Ireland to delay things.. “why rush” is in their blood.

I believe all US persons who receive FBR status now apply for passports online. Check my post a few pages earlier on this thread. Not sure if you can apply again, online. but I would research that.

A couple of months ago, I asked the consulate if I should re-apply now that the online system was available in the U.S. They replied that they (the consulate) would process my paper application when Ireland resumed normal operation. I asked them today whether the estimate was realistic. We'll see. The consulate usually replies within a day or two.

Hello! Please provide an update on this when you can- I'm also in the same situation! I've asked to withdraw my paper application a couple of times so that I can submit an online application and I keep being told that if I submit it online I'll be at the back of the queue and it will take longer. Online is starting to look like a much better option, however! Best of luck with your application.

Once they’re properly back up and running it won’t take them too long to get into the swing of things. This was my passport tracker info from last year when they were working at full speed.

Applied Online: 18/09/2020
Documents Sent: 18/09/2020
Documents Received: 22/09/2020
Passport Dispatched : 30/09/2020
Passport Received: 05/10/2020
Thanks, @jamiepompey. Your numbers are a lot more encouraging.

I received a reply from the Consulate. They confirmed that the processing of my passport has begun and the estimated date on the tracker is a mistake. No updated estimates as of yet though. Good luck to all.

A big thanks to everyone on this thread for the advice and reassurance during my FBR process over the past few years.

Your comments betray ignorance and attempt at personal antagonism - and I will not dance to that tune. If you wish to deliberately misconstrue what I have written, go right ahead.
How’s it going, Julius? Any word? What did the Queen have to say about your plight?

Has anyone heard ANYTHING about when the FBR offices are to open? Anything at all? Ideally with some sources posted.

THANKS
