Another thing (and still reading through the forms, so apologies): my daughter is now an adult. So her passport application required a government-issued photo id (can be certified, not original). My son is still a minor, so his application doesn't ask for that.

"Julius. Since you wrote this..., The fact remains that you only put in your FBR application 3 months ago so, even before Brexit or Covid, would still have had at least 12 months waiting in the queue. Yet you've taken up residence here, filling every page with posts, most of which are your own campaign and don't actually provide any assistance or information to users with the FBR application process. With regards to your campaign to put pressure on the Irish Government to allocate more resource to FBR processing, I think most of us realise it's just naïve. Like you, I listened to the RTE radio phone-in show but what I heard were lots of frustrated Irish citizens complaining about the problems they are having with the processing of their passport applications or renewals. FBR was not mentioned once. There is no political pressure from Irish voters over FBR because it is of negligible importance to them, unlike the processing of their own passports.

I'm sure that, regardless of what I or anyone else says, you are going to spend the next 2 years filling these pages with your abstract thoughts. So can I make one small request:...."

I can absolutely cut them short, and take this point, and some others, on board. That said, I do not appreciate the tone of your post which manages to be both condescending and patronising at the same time. When I joined this forum several weeks ago I was bordering on the hysterical, and yes, probably naive on certain points. Thanks to the people on this forum and also to my own enquiries I have learnt a lot about the FBR process and the DFA's modus operandi. Having been to Dublin, visited their offices and seen first-hand what is happening in Ireland has crystallised certain things, thereby bringing my vision more sharply into focus. Far from naive and abstract, I probably see things about as clearly as anyone can with the information currently available - much of which was not easily come by. I will not list all the things I have done to inform, assist and encourage people, as the posts are there and speak for themselves. IF I were in it only for myself I would not have bothered to share these. Some of the things I have done and the questions I have asked have not even been done by the people whose rightful job it is to do them! FBR is a thorny wood for many and each applicant has their reasons for applying, and I have mine. I understand and accept that I will have to wait some considerable time, and rightly so given how long others have been waiting and also given their more pressing circumstances in some cases. I do not need reminding as to when I applied - I am perfectly aware of this, thank you. Though somewhat resigned to waiting, this does not mean that we cannot question certain points purported by the DFA. I know from experience that politicians are not to be trusted, and although Irish politicians appear to be of a slightly higher calibre, the bar is set generally very low. If you do not wish to read what to consider to be my "naive and abstract thoughts", then you are quite free not to read them. Good day to you.

I actually followed the required documents once I filled the online application for my son, and all it asked for: contest form, fbr for the kid, his birth cert (all in original). Its his first pass, and I applied from outside Ireland and followed the final checklist as-is which doesnt even mention any ID (true I added my passport number in the online application)

If you have an irish passport, then a non certified copy shall suffice (its their own system so they can verify on spot and without even needing a copy, however if names do not match, then they try to match their names as per their other passport).. have you happened to fill the application saying you want to use or register another name on the irish passport?

I have found this forum useful as many other appear to over the past year or so in working out what the current status is with regards to FBR timelines. Previously a forum member collated all the available timelines periodically and posted them in a succinct manner. Below is my attempt at this, although I think they were more proficient in it than myself. Apologies for a lengthy post.

Some points of note:
• I have only gone back to page 130 of this forum thread, previous entries were not considered in the below
• Whilst historically I have read each post (some of them very lengthy), I have for this exercise only added information to the below when it was obvious timelines were being given. I have not thoroughly read each post for a single date within a number of paragraphs etc
• I tried to standardise the terminology, this required manual entry on my part and some assumptions as to the terminology in the post vs that of my standard. The below has not been peer reviewed and there are instances where I have used “cut” when I should have used “copy” and so truncated entries (I believe this occurred for the user Angelo_2019), I have also forgotten at least one username and may have missed entries. I apologise to these users, but I have not gone back and rectified anything. This should therefore not be used for the basis of any emails to officials etc (especially not citing this post), they also may not represent the current status.
• All dates where manually entered by me are in the dd-mm-yyyy format.
• Feel free to add/amend entries as necessary

fbrlad and all:

I reread it. You do need to send them a government-issued photo id, but if you live outside of Ireland, it can be a certified copy. It does not need to be the original. It's not an Irish passport that they ask for, just a state-issued photo id. It also asked for my Irish passport number. (I have an Irish passport because I was born Irish; my kids now have FBR but not passports.)

I was not asked for updated photos at any time but my kids were young adults/teens when we applied, not babies.

You sent in a birth certificate, the fbr, and consent, and that's it? Everything went through? My form does ask for government-issued photo id.
Yes that's right, I sent in a certified copy of my British passport when I applied for my Irish passport. I got the solicitor at a local law firm to certify that and also my application form. I think it cost me about £10 or something for the privilege.

Now THIS is an incredibly useful post! Thanks so much for collating all this info - what a legend! Really helps to put into perspective. I’ve cut the quote short to save scrolling but it’s worth a read. Thanks again.

On a separate note, for those who have been fortunate enough to receive their congratulations email, do you know what email address this came from? I might add it to my ‘safe sender’ list in Outlook so it doesn’t inadvertently get sent to my junk box!

Thank you very much for going to the trouble of doing this. Can I add my teenage children's timeline? It's a bit of an outlier as it's now passed the 30 month mark, probably due to me being adopted in the UK, although ironically I am an Irish citizen both by birth and by adoption. We'll get there eventually!

Congrats email: TBC

I hope it's soon- so so excited to receive it!! Maybe before the 2 year mark, but so many others are past that now, just need to be patient and hope I didn't do anything wrong that would slow it down any further!
Take care,

If you whitelist just the domain name then it will also catch any other email addresses they might use. For example, in Google Mail I have the following. The same principle applies to other email applications.

Matches: from:(@dfat.ie)
Do this: Star it, Never send it to Spam, Mark it as important

In the seeming absence of moderators or rules for this thread, those of you that would prefer a little less noise might be interested to know that there is a friends & foes section under your user profile. Before anyone cries "censorship!", it isn't.

Don't assume there aren't rules or moderators who visited each post made daily.

If you paid attention, you would have noticed a certain user has been banned from the forum today.

Hello,
My brother and I have been waiting since August 2019, so over 2 years now, for our FBR applications to be processed. Can anyone shed light as to whether FBR applications are getting processed yet in 2021? I see that the DFA office is still closed however I noted that some people seem to have gotten processed.

Appreciate any information you may provide including a contact that I should make to inquire.

Thank you,
Teresa

I have found this forum useful as many other appear to over the past year or so in working out what the current status is with regards to FBR timelines. Previously a forum member collated all the available timelines periodically and posted them in a succinct manner. Below is my attempt at this, although I think they were more proficient in it than myself. Apologies for a lengthy post.

Thanks for that effort! That had to take a long time. I also recall a user name Sulla who tracked everyone's data on an excel spreadsheet. I didn't see my name on the list but it looks like I am one of the relatively few October folks that is still waiting for any word.

Date of application October 1, 2019
Date of email acknowledgment of application received October 9, 2019

I have the added complication that the email I used to apply with is no longer active, ugh. I sent a letter to the folks at Balbriggan but I can't be sure if it's been opened. I am hoping to message them when we get some indication that they are officially open.

Great work alittlelate. It appears that December 2019 people should be receiving some good news soon! Nothing to update for me - last one before lockdown - but I'll let this board know :-)

No worries all! It took about 90min, I didn't actually realise how many timelines had been given until i started! I am not as organised as Sulla with a spreadsheet.

Again - it's very rough and does have errors - i didn't double check anything and so sorry that I missed you, NYmph10927 (and potentially several others).

I tried to align the start date as the date the documents arrived at destination, this to me is when the timeline starts. I have however not ordered some of them correctly, Riverside12 - I think you should be in the Oct19 cohort by this definition.

I may (or someone else), try and give an update every 5pages or so which should be a more manageable task.

greentea2004 - It appears based on others having given timelines that some processing, however limited may be occuring in the FBR offices. An August 2019 application would be on the longer side of the wait, but as there is only a snapshot of timelines considering the number of applications it would be impossible to say if you are a statistically significant outlier or not. Officially, the offices are closed and until they open there may not be much luck in contacting them.

As each case is unique and processed by hand considering several lines of lineage using official documents from potentially several countries, I have no problem with the "applications are processed in strict date order" message - you could be assigned the fastest processing team, or the slowest - all in combination with COVID complications. Processing starting in date order, doesn't necessarily mean approvals should be in that order.

Good news - I have received the confirmation of address email :D - Thanks to everyone for posting supportive advice and info and keeping hopes up over many months.

It has been a very long wait over 2 years, but the day has arrived as so many have said it would.

So as others have said - the longing and waiting will end - don't despair and try to keep positive even when it seems hopeless.

Application online date: 18/08/19
Documents received email: 25/08/19
Confirmation of address email: 14/09/21
Will post updates.

Good luck to everyone.

Is there any way for you to know what their new user name will be when they sneak back in?!
