I don’t find these stats particularly reassuring considering my documents were received June 2019 but I have not heard anything. Based on the conversations I believe I may be the longest in the queue. My fear is that my application is lost in the shuffle. Any advise? After nearly 30 months and hearing much later applications have been processed I am losing my patience.
I'd try to get into contact with them. The FBR webchat is currently closed atm but if you give them an email on their urgent queries email they might reply. I saw a similar situation someone had a few months ago whereby they were waiting for way longer than the stated time and the reason for it was because their application was incomplete due to them missing their dads state ID document. They eventually got added to the FBR. fbr.urgentqueries@dfa.ie

Hi all,

I submitted my FBR applications electronically (for my two children) and it has been bugging me whether I also need to print out and send paper application forms by post as well (I also haven't yet submitted any supporting documents which I understand is possibly another issue).

It makes sense that the electronic submission of the application forms should be enough (with my payment) but I thought I should make sure given such a long wait.

Does anyone know whether the application forms themselves just need to be submitted electronically?

Yes they do because there's a section for you and your witness to sign.
Ah, thank you. So even during covid times when told not to send documents, the rest of you still sent the application form itself in the mail after filling out the online application form? Did you send just the application form registered post?

Fill out the online application, get it printed, signed and witnessed then send it together with your documents. No point in sending them separately. If you don’t send the application form they can’t process your application. Your waiting time starts when they receive your documents and register them onto their own system (whether you get an email confirmation of receipt or not).

Hi all! Just to thought I'd share my application - to be followed up in 2 years time!

Application: 15 July 2021 (Documents sent 24 November 2021)
Documents received: 29 November 2021
Address confirmation:
Congratulations email:

Quick question, is the address confirmation the only other communication you get before you get FBR confirmed?

Thanks

Unless they need further clarification or questions regarding the information provided, yes.

This might be the optimist in me speaking, however, I can't help but think the 2 year wait is an over exaggeration.

During the COVID period when the FBR office was closed, I would assume there was a vast reduction of applications sent in. Therefore, the the current 31000 applications must be made up of majority mid to late 2019 applications (I appreciate this will have risen drastically recently). As established, 2019 applicants are now getting approved in line with the 2 year timeline - but this includes the COVID out of office buffer, so surely after getting through the 2019 applications the waiting time should reduce.

I'm now thinking that those applying now would be a lot faster than 2 years (providing the Omicron COVID variant doesn't mess things up)...?

Anyone else share a similar view?

I was kinda thinking this myself. People would still have sent in applications during COVID despite being told not to, I know I've heard of people doing it. Plus, they did re-open for a period during COVID-19 then shut again.

I see the 2 year wait rapidly falling after march 2022 i.e. 2 year anniversary of the lock down. It may come down sooner if they have extra people in to clear the backlog?

I've been waiting since march 2020, but guess those who apply now could hear within the year.

Hi everyone!

I am a proper lurker on this forum - I have never posted before but I have been checking up here since about July 2021 when I stumbled up on it in yet another frantic google search to see if I could find out anything about FBR processing times!

Today I received a phone call form the DFA to confirm the address on my application!! Extremely exciting news. I thought I'd post my timeline as I've found that so helpful when other people have done that, just to get that comfort that I'm not the only one waiting, and that things do seem to be moving:

Application submitted online: 10/11/2019
Email acknowledging receipt of documentation Balbriggan: 02/12/2019
Confirmation of address phone call: 29/11/2021
Date added to FBR: TBC
Congrats email: TBC
FBR certificate received: TBC

I'm not sure how pertinent it is to know but I sent off my application alongside my two sisters, with one set of original documents to cover all of us. It's been a long 24 months with no news but checking up here periodically has been so useful for me that I thought I'd share the timeline in case it helps other people get some reassurance as well. The lady I spoke to on the phone said she was ready to approve the applications but wanted to check the addresses first for document return. Hopefully I'll have an update before the end of the year to fill in when I was actually added to the FBR and when I got my certificate through.

For now I'm just going to celebrate the little victory with my family! And I'm sure my Mam will be thrilled to know her documents are on the way back to her!

Congrats! Also, very interesting. This is the second time I've seen someone mention a phone call from DFA rather than an email. I'm assuming this only for European applicants?

Hi,

Glad you’ve received some good news.

Would you mind telling me what number they contacted you on? I had a missed call last week from an Irish number but there was no message left and goes dead when I call back. I presume it’s a spam number but would be useful to confirm the number they called you on.

Thank you.

Things are moving people! I applied January 2020 but couldn’t pay as my computer timed out. I called them straight away and they assured me they would send a link to pay. I emailed them yesterday to tell them I was worried as hadn’t paid and didn’t want my application delayed because of it and low and behold I’ve just had an email from the DFA with a payment link. I’m so happy to know that my application is actually sitting on someone’s desk about to be looked at! I’ll keep you posted when I hear back from them again as I’ve got a change of address that I’ll need to notify them about. Just wanted to let you all know incase you’re feeling despondent about lack of movement, it’s moving now! So happy to have just spent €278!

I guess so! Once I confirmed the address to return the documents to on the phone I did get an email from the person I spoke to, confirming what we spoke about to myself and my two sisters who she didn’t ring. I wonder if that’s because we are UK based so able to pick up the phone during processing hours?

I’m unsure if I’m allowed to (or should!) post the entire phone number on here but it was a Dublin number, starting 0179 - does that help?

I don’t think that’s the number I was contacted on then. Phone number was +353 (25) 218 2605.

Thank you anyway.

I'm really interested in how you consolidated your applications. Are you saying that you submitted only one copy of all of your ancestry documents (including your parents), combined it with you and your sisters' information and submitted it in one envelope? Did you include a cover letter on what was included? We're going to submit paperwork for our grandkids and it would be great if we could consolidate.

Thank you and congratulations!

Not the original poster, but I sent two applications in one - for both myself and my brother, as we share the same Irish grandparent and Irish citizen parent and therefore the same set of documents for them both. I put a note in the envelope saying that the documents are for two applications due to this reason and also got my witness (who knows us both) to mention it in their letter on headed paper.

I am really loving this forum and I have appreciated seeing other people’s journeys and timelines with their applications so I thought I’d also share my dates on here (I’ve added them to the Google doc too).

Application submitted online: 03/09/2021
Documents received at Balbriggan (no email confirmation, just postal tracking): 03/10/2021
Confirmation of address: TBC
Congrats email: TBC
FBR certificate received: TBC

Fingers crossed it will be a smooth, albeit long, process!

We printed all three applications and our certified IDs and proofs of address etc, put them in separate plastic wallets with a sticker with name and application number on. We then put all ancestry documents (Mam’s documents and granddad’s documents) into another plastic wallet labelled ancestry documents, and then I stuck a note in there detailing all three full names and application numbers and stated the ancestry documents were for all three applications. It was all posted in one envelope!

It felt like overkill but I think it was nice to have everything labelled up so it was clear there were three separate applications with their own proofs of address and ID, and then one set of ancestry documentation which related to them all :)
