Hi all, I've been following this thread for over two years and I can finally contribute!

Date of Application: 12/03/2020
Date of Address Confirmation: 26/07/2022
Date of Congratulations: pending
FBR Certification Received: pending
DSMcGuire congrats! To double check, was your application received 12th March?
Yes I can confirm that my applciation was received on the 12/03/2020. That was the last email I had regarding my application since receiving my date of address confirmation yesterday.
Wow.
A March approval and a mid March approval at that. This gives the late March folk like myself a bit of hope

My congrats

Morning all!

Long time reader, first time poster…

Date of Application: 01/01/2021
Documents Received: 07/06/2022

I concur with someone else saying don’t wait for favours from family to get hold of the documents… it took over a year to get hold of the documents, wasn’t aware I could have just ordered fresh copies from Ireland :(

Waiting for the documents and then seeing the ‘do not send your documents’ on the FBR site means that my application is hugely delayed… guess I’ll be waiting til at least 2024 for my FBR certificate :?

I also didn’t know anyone ‘personally’ from the list of witnesses so that was an extra delay, but at least all sorted from my side, for now.

I finally got my communication from Ireland. They received my paperwork on February 25, 2020. I sent to them a Certificate of Non-Existence regarding my mother's birth certificate from the county and her baptismal certifiicate. They said that a baptismal certificate was not acceptable. They also wanted "Original civil marriage certificate." They didn't specify my parents or grandparents. In any event, both were supplied.

I cannot give them what does not exist. Am I dealing with idiots?

They may want *your* marriage certificate - It has been posted on this forum before. It is of course totally irrelevant, but the excuse is "it helps build a picture".

Has anyone applied for citizenship through the Foreign Birth Registration while missing their parent's ID?
I am not on speaking terms with my father and he will not send me a photocopy of his ID card, but he registered on the FBR after I was born.

I sent my application in back in 2020 and finally received a resonse but they want his ID. I recall hearing of other people in similar situations who were appoved, so any feedback from others would be approceiated.

Thanks in advance.

I've seen this on here a few times. If you search for "estrangement" or "estranged" in the forum you should find replies of people in this situation. Here's one answer I found from a quick search:

"Some member have been advised to send in cover letter explaining the situation. Others have included an affidavit or sworn statement witnessed and signed by a solicitor attesting to the parental alienation/estrangement."

Thank you! I did include a letter with my original application in 2020, but who knows if the letter was lost in the shuffle these past few years. I will search estrangement in the forum and see how it went for others.

Also, just to clarify to anyone reading this in the future. I am elligible to apply through the FBR through my Irish born grandparents. The FBR response indicated they can't continue with the application until they receive my father's ID. I provided all other documents regarding myself, my father, and both grandparents.

No problem, I would say the key thing here is something "official" i.e. "sworn statement witnessed and signed by a solicitor attesting to the parental alienation/estrangement." , an actual affidavit, I.e. statement made under oath witnessed and signed by an official person. Should be plenty of options around Brooklyn.(Southside Williamsburg was my old haunting ground for many many years).

I would certainly be interested in hearing how you get on with this! I only applied a couple of months back (documents were received 2nd June 2022), but I wasn't able to include a photocopy of my grandfather's ID, as my family have all been estranged from him for some 20 years (and I've never met him myself). I included an affidavit with my application, which I think others have done too, but with previous searches I'm not sure if I've ever seen anyone actually confirm they've been approved (or denied) via such methods.

In my case, I also included photocopies of my grandparents divorce decree nisi (which my grandmother had on hand), and my grandfather's brother's birth certificate and (unnotarised due to country barrier) photocopy of passport. My grandfather's brother's documents might be over-compensating a bit and may not actually be relevant. I mostly did it on a whim.

Best of luck!

I'm in a very similar predicament. I sent mines off in January this year and I am missing my parents state ID document due to estrangement. Sent in an affidavit aswell as a photocopy of her brothers state ID and his birth certificate on a whim, even if it isn't relevant.

I did see someone back in December who got approved whilst missing their fathers state ID. So it seems the decision on whether to approve or deny with regards to this issue is entirely arbitrary.

Above is the link to the aforementioned person who succeeded whilst missing state ID. It is incredibly strange how some are succeeding but others are not. It was this person's post that spurred to add my mothers brothers state ID and birth certificate in addition to my cover letter and affidavit.

I have completed the online portion of the passport application and after a trip to the local bank will send the certificate back with the rest of the necessary documentation. Easy come (Ha!) Wow that was fast! Did you receive the email with the tracking link? I got my Congrats email the day after you, I have not received any email with tracking info for the cert.

No tracking information was included in my "congrats" email. Just a statement saying the certificate had been printed and posted to me. I'm sure yours is on the way.

Okay, thanks. I thought they used to give you the tracking number so you could make sure you're there to sign for it. We'll see what happens. I'm in Italy right now and won't be home for another week. I signed up for informed delivery, so hopefully I'll see it when it's coming and be able to get someone to go over and sign for it, if needed. Did it come to you via the USPS?
