Hi Vorona, Do you have any idea if we should deduct business trips or not? I was absent in 2018 for 83 days, 30 days for personal trips and 53 for business trips, i have HR letters to prove it, do you think i should deduct them?
really appreciate your response!
Yes.

5.6 Have you been absent from the State for more than 6 weeks per annum in any of the past 5 years? Yes. No.

And from the guidance:

5.6 Tick the appropriate box. If you were absent from the State for more than 6 weeks in any
of the previous 5 years provide details of all absences on a separate sheet and include it
with your application
.

so business trips are also deducted :( lots of people here said they shouldn't be deducted as long as you have company letters to prove it and i was thinking of not deducting them

You do not decide whether you want to deduct them. You provide your dates of absences to INIS, and they decide whether they want these days to be deducted, or if the reason provided by you is sufficient for an exemption. Business trips are usually exempted but there is no guarantee.

Only COVID related absences clearly considered as an exemption.
Everything else will be assessed during initial stage. If you're concerned about this, then wait until you have build up enough days to cover your absences. No need to cause yourself unnecessary stress.

That is not entirely correct. Once a reason is given, It’s up to the minister to decide whether to accept the reason or not, usually at the final stage.

For example, arguably the most famous case in recent years where Mr Jone’s application was denied, which subsequently caused the chaos in the High Court and the Court of Appeal due to the definition of continuous residences, the application was submitted in August 2017 and was rejected by the minister in November 2018.
