How will unemployment effect my application?

Post by _jms_ » Fri Jul 07, 2023 6:15 pm

I have been unemployed and on job seekers since December of last year. Thankfully it looks like I found a company interested in hiring me, I'm just waiting on a final decision from them next week. I've been living in Ireland for close to 12 years and have held a stamp 4 for the majority of that time. While I regret not submitting my application a few years ago before Covid, I'm now concerned that if I send it in it will get rejected because I've been in receipt of job seekers allowance and rent relief for several months. (I truly do not understand how some people that manage to survive on this for years) So I have not sent in my application yet. Has anyone else been in this situation before? I'm not sure if my application would get auto-rejected even if I land the job, or if it will get rejected just while I'm unemployed. And if it is rejected, how long would one need to wait to resubmit?

Technically, you don't have to be employed for naturalization to be successful, so there's no automatic condition of "unemployment = rejection", but yes, your benefit history might certainly be considered in a negative way. Also, you might have issues when renewing your stamp (most permissions are given under the idea of a holder "not being the undue burden of the state") - how did you get your stamp?
I would advise you to give the application some time - waiting times are decreasing and you might find a better use for the 175+975 fee you have to pay. Take some time to be more secure financially.

You can do it the next day - no waiting period.
Not a qualified immigration adviser. Use links and references given to gain confirmation and/or extra information.
