To my best knowledge and personal experience

If this is your first registration then you need to make appointment and attend office۔

But I you hold previously any stamp or you registered your self in Garda Station

then you need to submited online with all supporting documents.
Thanks...there need to be clarity cause the department just copy and pastes these approval letters.

This is a question for all those that got their approvals, my letter say I need to go into Burgh quay as a first time registration but I went there today and they told me I need to register online as a renewal...I am confused on how I go about getting my IRP card???
Did you not ask them at burgh quay how to go about registering online or the direct website ?
They said I should just use the new online registration but my letter says come in as a first timer with my Irish child...so that's the confusion
If you were told to use the online system, then means some of your previous details are still on their system and you need to register online.

I would say go on and register online. If there's any information or document they need or to see your Irish child, they would inform you afterwards

Yea. I agree, it's a copy and paste lazy system. They don't take the time to confirm if you previously had GNIB registration or not.

Sorry just to ask a different question that's unrelated to your current registration
In your approval letter, did they say future renewals should be made to residency 4 unit ?

I submitted DNA end of March and got approved this May.
Been a long wait
I don't know if not having any previous IRP in the country contributed to the delay.
Mine says four weeks before the expiration to apply to residency unit 4 again

Just a FYI:
for those that had GNIB cards prior to their approval for zambrano when doing the renewal online make sure you submit the following additional document; child's passport, child's birth certificate and a gp or letter from school 5hat the child resides in the state...it will help to not cause a delay in your IRP card processing
