Updated timeline:

23/09/21- applied online
11/10/21 - documents received
09/12/21 - processing application
14/12/21 - estimated issue date
22/12/21 - asked to resubmit documents
04/01/22 - documents received/processing
05/01/22 - original documents/ passport returned
08/03/22 - new estimated issue date
04/04/22 - application cancelled (due to application expiring / they said I sent a photocopy of ID, but I sent original documents twice)
04/04/22 - reapplied online ( I am going abroad this week so need my UK passport. I will send all documents in next week upon my return)
Well, that's me just posted all of my original documents off to Dublin, and I'll keep the tracker updated. Hopefully third time lucky

Hello I thought I would just update my timeline it looks like this long process from getting a FBR (Which I started in Aug 2019) to getting my Irish passport is finally coming to an end.

Jan 18, 2022 - Applied for Irish Passport
Feb 2, 20022 - Processing Application verifying my documents
March 30, 2022 - My application is being processed
April 16, 2022 - Passport book is being Printed
April 19, 2022 - Dispatched my Passport by mail
April 19, 2022 - Printing my Passport Card

So after a total time of 2 years and 8 months, it seems that there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel which is really nice.

I do have a question for people who have received their passports where did you get your tracking number so I can track it through the post office - If anyone could help me that would be great.

Thanks so much and good luck to everyone going through the process. I learnt that patience is key.

and as JGClancy was saying I also did the same thing and got my current Canadian Passport and Drivers License both notarized and had no issues with the documents I submitted.

For me, when the tracker changed to Dispatched it also included the tracking number with a link to the An Post tracking website

Dispatched
Your Passport Book was posted on 08/04/2022
Track your passport directly using your An Post reference code:

With the tracking code.

An Post will show the status while it is in Ireland. In the US, the same ID worked on the USPS tracking site.

The good news is that it only took about a week for delivery in April, vs. about a month for the application in Dec./January. The mail man did bring it to my door to deliver it in person (registered), no idea what happens if no one is home to receive it. (FBR was just left in the mailbox, also no signature.)

Congratulations. I applied for the FBR in August 2019 also, finally received the passport last week.
The enclosure said original documents to be returned within 15 business days (i.e. 3 weeks.)

I received the supporting documentation for my passport, so now the FBR and passport are complete and all additional documents returned as well.

Passport application
3 Dec 2021 - online application
18 Dec 2021 - mailed supporting documents from US
12 Jan 2022 - documents delivered to DFA
20 Jan 2022 - status updated to documents received, verifying - Expected date 25 March 2022
16 Mar 2022 - Processing - (past verification stage)
7 Apr 2022 - Printing
9 Apr 2022 - Dispatched - includes tracking number
14 Apr 2022 - Delivered. Postman brought to door (registered), no signature
23 Apr 2022 - Supporting documents returned (registered but left in mail box, no signature)

Return of supporting documents to US took 1 week, not the full 3 weeks in the DFA letter.

23/09 : Application received
11/10 : Supporting documents received. Processing and verifying.
14/12 : Estimated issue date.
22/12 : Additional documents requested. (Original documents already in Dublin and confirmed via webchat, but still had to send in replacements)
22/12 : Replacements sent to Balbriggan , tracked and signed for from UK.
04/01 : Additional documents received. Verifying documents.
07/01 : Original documents returned
08/03 : New estimated issue date.
04/04: Application refused (expired / requested more documents)
04/04: Reapplied online
19/04: Resent documents from the UK
25/04: Documents received at DFA (progress tracking information still to be added)

I will update the timeline as updates come through. When they cancelled initial application I received an email saying that the only reason it was refused was because I sent in a photocopy. It was actually the original document I had sent them, but on closer inspection I agree that it could look like a photocopy. As such, in my current application I have included a certified copy of that particular document, and hopefully this will stop any confusion.

Update

16/12 Processing application: documents received blah blah . Verifying documents

10/02 Processing application: Your application is being processed
My journey started in 2019 is finally over 🙏

In February they asked me to send original proof of address and name, since I had sent printouts from e billing accounts.

I did and the status stayed in processed with estimated due date for May 5th.

May 4tg changed to printing and posted same sate and finally received it by post yesterday!

No tracking number was provided.

Passport card is still being printed

Thanks to everyone in this forum, the citizenship and passport customer service are so bad that only this forum really answered questions and gave me hope through out the years.

All the best to everyone!

When original documents get returned undelivered and then re-sent, do they update the passport tracking page to indicate that they have been sent?

Here's the background:

I had three passport applications and successfully got all three passports but only got two of the original documents back (my daughters is missing)

After a month of trying to reach the passport office (never succeeding), I got a letter saying it had been returned and asking for an address to dispatch the documents). I responded and gave my address but never got a response saying the re-sent it (I did another followup a week later asking for the tracking number and still no response).

Given that I can not reach them by chat or phone (tried almost everyday since), is there a way to know if they have been sent?

Also is there a way to get the USPS tracking info once it has been handed off?

Hoping for the best so we don't have to get duplicates of documents.

Hi everyone. Sorry, this isn't a joyous update where I can say a passport has been issued.

I submitted my application in February, and it was confirmed they have my documents on 24th Feb. In April my application moved from "processing documents" to "processing application". My projected date was May 5th. Obviously, it's now a month over due, and I have been trying for days to get a hold of the passport office. I finally managed it today. I understand they are very busy and that is what is causing the delay. When I asked if there was an updated time frame for completion, the agent said:
"Unfortunately as the issue date is the only estimate we can provide for how long processing would take, we can't provide an updated timeframe. Keep an eye on the tracker for any further updates. Even though the issue date won't update, the status below the bar will."

So, although this is frustrating, it is good to know that the status will move when something happens. Otherwise I will keep my fingers crossed!

Finally, I have my Irish passport! :D
Here is a breakdown of the full process for anyone wondering, beginning with my initial steps to get myself onto the Irish Foreign Birth Register.

Foreign Birth Register (FBR)
Application sent via post from London, UK - 28th September 2019
FBR application accepted in Ireland - 3rd October 2019
Email from FBR staff confirming my current address - 4th January 2022
Congratulations email from FBR staff - 5th January 2022
FBR certificate received in the post - 28th January 2022

Passport and Passport card
Application completed online - 11th February 2022
Application sent via post from London, UK - 16th February 2022
Application signed for at Balbriggan Passport office - 21st February 2022
"Processing Application, we have received your supporting documents" - 24th February 2022. Projected date was 5th May 2022.
"Processing Application" - 14th April 2022
Printing Passport - 11th July 2022
Dispatched Passport - 12th July 2022
Printing Passport card - 12th July 2022
Dispatched Passport card - 14th July 2022
Received Passport in the post - 15th July 2022
Received Passport card in the post - 18th July 2022
Received all of my application supporting documents in the post - 21st July 2022

So, from the initial posting of my FBR application way back in 2019 to now, it has been 1027 days, or 2 years, 9 months, and 23 days. That doesn't include all the waiting around I did when I was waiting for birth certificates to be posted to me before my FBR application could be sent.

What documents did I send with my passport application?
Alongside my FBR certificate and birth certificate, I included a scan of my passport which was witnessed by a university lecturer, my actual driving license card and paper counterpart, a bank statement stamped by my bank, a credit card statement on official company paper, a student loans repayment invoice, a recent payslip stamped by my employer, and my work contract (I started a new job 2 months before I sent in my passport application and the contract had my address on it, so it was sufficiently recent).
I spoke to a Passport agent before I sent my application in, to ask if it was okay that I only sent in a scan of my passport which was witnessed. I needed it for travel and I didn't fancy sending both my passport and driving license originals. They confirmed it was fine, but I sent in a print off of that conversation with the agent as proof. I also provided a written document outlining which bits of my paperwork fulfilled which parts of their form, so it was clear to anyone what I had provided.

Very happy to have the Passport in hand. Good luck to you all!

Congrats on being 100% done! Oh my goodness though, 5+ months to get a passport? let's hope they can streamline that going forward.
