Ireland Short Stay Visa on UK Visa issued in 2011

Post by sum-img » Fri May 17, 2019 1:40 pm

Need some info, please. As per the British-Irish visa scheme, Indian nationals can visit the UK and Ireland using a single visa when travelling on certain short stay and visitor visa. I am not sure when this scheme came into effect and if it applies to the old UK visas.

My mother got 10 years UK visitor/family visa in the year 2011. My question is whether my mother can travel to Ireland for a short stay on the same UK visa which was issued in 2011 for the UK or she has to apply for a new Irish visa? Please help.

Thanks.

She's not eligible under BIVS, as all visas issued under BIVS will have explicitly say "BIVS" on the visa.

However, she *might* be eligible under the Irish Short Stay Visa Waiver programme. See document below.

I am unable to find anything in this document that prohibits the use of a visa issued before the policy went live, however, you should double check with the visa department of INIS.

Also just keep in mind that in order to travel to Ireland using a UK visa, she must visit UK first and obtain an entry stamp from a UK port.

Thanks for your advice and help.

I am struggling to get any contact details where I can enquire about my doubts. Any email address or phone number will help.

Much appreciated.

For a better insight on the visa waiver programme, please see the attachment.

It has all the relevant information needed for an applicant travelling to know.
