Irish citizenship application help

Post by LaimisL6 » Mon Apr 06, 2020 2:38 pm

Hi all , I am currently applying for my citizenship through naturalization.

It's asking me for 3 different proofs of address for each year of residence claimed.

So 1st, im going to guess that's the last 5 years , dating back to April 2015?
Also I don't have any proofs of address except 1 bank statement from 2015. I was working in a job whom on payslips didn't provide my address, just my pps number and my name, so that's out the question. I was 19 at the time and didn't have any bills in my name either.

Anyone can help me regarding what to do/ what they might have of done in this scenario as I can't find much anywhere on Google and their phone lines are impossible to get through. Tried 56 calls and couldn't get through so gave up..

Thanks

You can ask your employer and your landlord (or your parents or if you were living with them) to each issue you a letter to prove where you lived at the time for each year that you are with them.

Btw - I’m not sure if their phone support lines are open at the moment, but if they are, 56 is not a big number when it comes to calling the Citizenship department. I for two or three times had called them more than 600 times during the 2.5 hour window on Tuesday and Thursday and couldn’t get through. All you need is a lot of patience and a bit of luck :)

600 times wow. I rang them during the 2.5 hour period during one of those days :) . I feel spoilt saying that now haha.

Well I was living with my parents at the time. I have 2 of the 3 documents already, I've got a bank statement and a p60 or p45, one of them. So I just need one more. So if I contact my landlord and have him write out a letter saying that I lived at this address during this time, with his contact details and signature, that should do ? Or will I get both of my parents to write up one each on top of that too just to confirm ??

If there is a formal rental agreement that has your name on it, that alone would be sufficient; otherwise I’d ask the landlord to issue a letter with his contact details included (not sure how difficult that would be though).

Btw if you were registered elsewhere with your name and address on it, you can consider these as well (e.g. if you have visited a local GP or a local sports club that year, or if you attended a school/college etc).

Unfortunately I was only working in the one job so don't even have a contract from them that year as I started with them in 2014. And the payslips had no home address on it. Everything else is under my parents name.

Spoke with the landlord and he said he would not mind doing a reference so hopefully that should do!

Oh finally, I have seen this somewhere but don't know how true it is. That from the time of application I can't have of left the country in the last 12 months for a single day. So I must be in the country since let's say 6th April 2019 for every single day . Is that true or just lies ??

No there’s no such thing. There was a stupid ruling on that initially but it was overturned. No application was rejected due to this. You can be out of the country for up to 42 days every year.

Oh right, I heard they were in talks about that last year and that was that.

So just to confirm before I send it off. When it mentions , each year of residence claimed. Which one is it?

1 - from the time I moved into Ireland, which I was 2005.
2 - since I'm 18
3 - just the last 5 years ??

For the period that you are claiming citizenship based on. So normally people would just put in the last 5 years. You can of course put in more years if you like - to the maximum of 9 years before the application date.

For example, if you have lived here from 01/2010 to 04/2020:
- You can only claim residence for the last 9 years, which is 04/2011 - 04/2020. This means your residence between 01/2010 - 04/2011 will not be counted.
- You must provide proofs for the period between 04/2019 and 04/2020.
- Then between 04/2011 and 04/2019, you just need to provide proofs that you have lived 4 years out of this period. Most people will simply provide proof for the last 4 years i.e. 04/2015 - 04/2019.

Some people may choose to provide proof for an additional 50 days because they were abroad for 50 days in one of the year. Some people may choose to provide proof for an additional year or 4 additional years - because why not :) It may give the processing officer the idea that you have been living here for a long time and help speed your application up - or maybe it has no effect whatsoever - nobody knows how they work.

Might be relevant: I contacted the naturalisation office to confirm exactly how the 'years' were defined - i.e. if I was claming naturalisation based on residence from March 2015 to March 2020, did I need three proofs of address for the year March 2015 to March 2016, three for March 2016 to March 2017, etc. Surprisingly I was told that this was not the case and evidence was instead required for each *calendar year*, so in my example it would be three proofs of address for each of the years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Hi , yes my application is sent off already . But I figured the months didn't really matter too much , once it was 3 during any period of the year.

Hi I have a quick question I arrived in Ireland February 2017 on arrival i got 3 month on airport and got my first temporary stamp 4 EUFAM on 14 June 2017 my question is will my year start from February 2017 to February 2018 or June 2017 to June 2018. Or JAN 2017 TILL JAN 2018, 2019, 2020?
Now big confusion is i went out of country to Pak 2018, 2019, 2020 usually in JAN OR FEB every year but i also went abroad UK in middle but each time i stayed less then 30 days usually all in total if i start counting my days from Jan to Dec. But if i count my days June 2017 till June 2018, June 2019, June 2020 then according to that i m def well over 30 days. I m very confused , i will be very greatful if someone solve this question. Thnx
