Hello all,

My empathy to all who are waiting for their certs. Congratulations to the patient ones who completed the Citizenship process. Thank you for the person to provided us a guestimate of around 5th March 2024 for 19th Dec 2024 3pm attendees. That helps the mind a lot! Thank you!

Quick question - Any luck with 19Dec 3 pm attendees getting cert? Like many of you, I am awaiting too.

:)
with the way things are going, i see that Department is yet to send any certs for 1 pm Dec 19th . this could be due to the ceremony on Monday 26th. another 2000 certs (1 pm and 3 pm) are yet to sent . not sure if they are printed already. i wont be surprised for another 4 weeks elapsed time before everyone in Dec ceremony receive their certs
I am still waiting for my certificate from Dec19 10:30 ceremony. So afternoon attendees may have to wait even longer I am afraid.

Thats probably not how it works. My Friend from Dec19 10:30 received his cert on Feb 16th. your situation must be an exception. I dont think it has any impact on the afternoon session

Seven weeks (six with holidays) to print a certificate and an additional three weeks to post it out is completely unacceptable. I can only imagine how long it will be for those of us that attended the ceremony this past Monday.

The TD query that was made on our behalf regarding the recent naturalisation certificate delays has received an official response:

In a little over two years the Citizenship Division of my Department has gone from processing around 12,000 applications a year to processing over 20,000 applications. This 66% increase in processing has been achieved through digitising and streamlining processes.

Last year Citizenship Division more than doubled the number of Citizenship Ceremonies available to applicants with 15 held over the course of the year. These took place in the RDS, Dublin in March, in the INEC, Killarney in June, and in the Convention Centre in both October and December. This was a significant increase on 6 Citizenship Ceremonies held in 2022.

I recognise that the delay in receiving a Naturalisation Certificate is frustrating for people and my Department is examining on how to speed up the delivery of Certificates for future Ceremonies to be held this year.

I am advised that the majority of the 6,000 Certificates for people that attended the December ceremonies have now issued. Any applicants that are yet to receive their certificate can be assured that they will receive their Certificate of Naturalisation via registered post in the coming weeks.

Finally, I can advise the Deputy that the Citizenship Division of my Department will continue to communicate regularly with all applicants to keep them informed on updates on processing times and arrangements.

I'd guess that means "printed" as that's the date which really matters at the end of the day.

Hi my daughter and I were both waiting for our certs, we were 1500, 19th. My daughters is very urgent as she needs a passport to continue studying in the EU. My cert actually just arrived and I notice the issue date is the date of our ceremony, 19th Dec. Can anyone else please confirm if the date is always the ceremony date as reading this chain I had got the impression there was a date of when the cert was printed on the cert? If its the ceremony date I can proceed to start the passport application whilst awaiting the hard copy? Many thanks and good luck everyone.

The date is always ceremony date, but it doesn't mean you can start the application.
You're asked for certificate number as one of the first steps during passport application, which you cannot amend later and you cannot know it till you have your certificate.

I was in the same ceremony. Hope I get mine soon. Are you based in Dublin? Just checking if people from Dublin have started getting it.

same. my friend received his cert nearly 10 days before most of the others from his ceremony did. I wonder if it has something to do with application date. cant think of any other reason

Exactly this. Also you will need to either send in your certificate or a certified colour copy of it as part of your documentation. They don't really start to process the passport application until they have your documents. Currently the turnaround time for a first time passport application is 20 business days. I applied online on 19/2/2024 (the day I got my cert), and they received my documentation on 21/2/2024. The current estimate is that they will issue my passport on 21/3/2024.
Oh, and while there is an expedited service, it is only available for renewals. Not first time applications.

I wouldnt wait another week. There is not guarantee that a TD will help. OP is from 18th morning. They should have received their certs like a month ago. Clearly there is something wrong and they deserve to know what went wrong
