read carefully from the top.

"As and from the 23rd November 2020" all adult applicants for a certificate of naturalisation are required to have an up to date tax clearance certificate.
Is it acceptable to citizenship if the applicant applies and gets the tax clearance prior to his/her application? For instance, can the applicant present a tax clearance certificate issued in November 2020, to Citizenship in January or February 2021?

Thanks, I understood that.

My question was related to the fact that when I heard they were doing tax clearence online I assumed it was for everybody. So that would help with the backlog. But if it's for only new applicants, then what's gonna happen with the ones that submitted them already?

Are we gonna still have to wait for the check to be manual?

It's not clear and if that's the case it doesn't make sense.

It should help everyone not just new applications

Answer: Yes, this is for new applications starting from Nov 23, 2020.

Are we gonna still have to wait for the check to be manual?

Answer: Unfortunately for the applcation already submitted need to wait as the citizenship members are currently verifciting this processing manually.

Answer: Agree, gettting an ETC certificate takes only minutes from Revenue
Finally by doing this for new applicaiton the work load will be minimal and they can work on backlog.

Thanks,

COVID-19 has unfortunately prevented the holding of our large scale citizenship ceremonies which is impacting the processing of applications. As a solution on an interim basis for applicants whose applications are approved, Minister McEntee was pleased to recently approve the priority drafting of a Statutory Instrument, whereby naturalisation certificates may issue on receipt of a statutory declaration. In this way, we hope to alleviate the delays currently impacting those seeking to start their new lives as Irish citizens.

Please continue to check our website for further announcements and updates here. It remains our intention that large scale ceremonies will recommence once circumstances allow.

Yeah. Idk. Maybe I'm the devil's advocate.

But so far the two announcements in their official website are for new applications at the end of November or to benefit applicants whose applications have been approved. Like it says above... Which is great... But what about the 20000 backlog. I just wished they made a statement of how they would prioritise that etc.

But yeah, let's hope the affidavit is sent to more people other than the 3000 that have been approved already

You need to provide a valid reason when applying for eTax. You cannot just ask for a clearance if no official has asked you to provide one.

If the Citizenship department wants every existing applicant’s clearance (which is quite unlikely), they will have to send out a letter to each applicant and ask them to provide one.

If you already registered with revenue online there is no need to give reason for e.t.c. Just sign in to my account and click on tax clearance in manage my record section, get instantly your Tax clearance certificate online.

That's True

Once you logon to Renenue look for ETC in Search box

"Apply for tax clearance online using eTax Clearance (eTC)"

Pick the Option "Citizenship" reason for applying this certificate and you will get the ceritificates in minutes...

Below is the sample copy of ETC certificate

Thanks

That's wrong. You are required to select a valid reason (which should be from one of the government departments).

Of course you can do that - as a matter of fact, you can select any reason you want - but that doesn't mean it's right to do that.

When a civil service department contacts you for an official document, a request ID is created from the originator system, so that the request can be traced back to the original request if any follow up is required. In your case, you have not been by the Citizenship office to request for it, so it is not right to use that as a reason.

Unless you receive a letter from INIS specifically asking you to do that, you do not need to do anything.

Answer: I guess the answer for your question will be yes John, when you request a TCC certificate the revenue will give you a certificate with an access code. So that ppl can check that your payed clear tax, but when you print that certificate through online in the end it will generate date with the day you request ( again during recent announcement Minister never mentioned about the date but only said about New application after Nov 23,2020 need to submit this ( finally this is my view open to take feedback )

If you apply for citizenship in January 2021, why requesting for a TCC 2 months in advance? The eTax service takes less than a minute to complete. If you intend to apply in January 2021, you should request for a TCC in January 2021.

Thanks a million. My friend applied for it and got it in minutes out of curiosity nervous, doesn't make sense to me really. Now the issued TCC is useless because she won't need it until January 2021. I hope getting it now won't prevent her from applying for another TCC in January?

Has anyone received or heard of anyone else receiving approvals recently? I haven't heard of any approvals since the few that came in early October but wondering if anyone else has any updates and whether its worth checking with the citizenship department for our application?

Is your IRP already taken from you? If so, just contact the same department you sent your naturalisation documents to and request to temporary return your card. If the card is still with you, just travel wherever you wish, it will not impact anything.
