Encourage anyone who are going to the ceremony PLEASE wear masks! A massive gathering contains potential risk(Korea's case). It's simple, wearing a mask brings risk to the lowest!Get the passport but not the virus!

I'll affect mostly the west coast, I don't believe trains will stop operating because of it.

Go to GNIB office and ask for a 3-month extension of your permission. It should be free. Just show them the approval letter.

I stopped panic already...
I just offer to people who are still worried about it to bring masks. It is absolutely easy to understand .
And Mask is helping very good.
You will see by yourself very soon millions people with masks on St. Patrick's fest and parade from 13 till 20 of march. The celebration will not be canceled. It is officially.
But who knows....
Nobody knows.
It is important to take care about that issue then to know something......

Notice 1 | Statement by the Department of Justice and Equality - Citizenship Ceremonies to proceed as planned
28 February 2020

The Department of Justice and Equality wishes to advise that the Citizenship ceremonies scheduled for the 2nd and 3rd of March will proceed as planned.

Candidates and their guests who have returned from a COVID-19 affected region in the last 14 days or who have been in close contact with a confirmed or probable COVID-19 case in the last 14 days, and have symptoms (a cough, shortness of breath, breathing difficulties or fever) should isolate themselves at home and phone their GP immediately, and are requested not to attend the ceremony.

The current list of COVID-19 affected regions is: Mainland China, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Iran and 4 regions in Northern Italy: Veneto, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont

To help limit the inconvenience caused, applicants are advised that alternative ceremony will be held on or before the 17th of April. Candidates who are availing of the alternative ceremony are asked to notify Citizenship regarding their intentions on or before 29th February.

The notification process is as follows;

email citizenshipinfo@justice.ie
The subject line should reference the following: Day, Time, Candidates invitation number e.g. “Monday 10.30am , 20A-43”
Citizenship will contact you within 48 hours to confirm receipt of same
If you have not received a response from Citizenship within 48 Hours, please email again.

The Department will continue to monitor developments. In the meantime candidates are advised to visit https://www.irishimmigration.ie/citizenship/ for status updates.

Enjoy the ceremony but do keep in mind a mask is more benefit to stop you infecting others than it is to yourself. It does, at least, help stop you touching your face with your hands.

The mortality rate is highly correlated with age so if you are older or are in contact with older people you really might rethink this. I wouldn't want to give my grandmother a 14%+ chance of dying.

This is an event that will _specifically_ include people from all over the world who are more likely than most to have travelled recently. I think it's irresponsible of them not to cancel it.

As for god, spare a thought for the atheists among us!

Irresponsible is shutting down countries because of a flu virus variation that does less harm than h1n1 (which is around us and nobody cares)

It's just unbelievable people panicking for nothing

What does it actually means?

People who hasn't been in contact (which is my case) with people or have been to those high risk areas should just do nothing and keep an eye for updates?

It means if you have been to any of these areas, or if you are in contact with someone who has been to these areas, you should not attend this ceremony. You should email them with your details and they will re-schedule you to an alternative ceremony before 17 April.

Thanks for your reply, that's not my case
for those who're attending next week (if they don't cancel it) there's no need to contact INIS them?

Cheers and good luck to y'all.

Hopefully people are responsible enough not to attend if they have been to those countries and have any symptoms and glad to hear the ceromony is going ahead let's all take precautions.

You don't need to contact INIS if you have no contact with the affected regions.

I do feel a bit worried about INIS's approach though. It was posted to their own website and it only gives people 2 days to respond. Most people who got approval won't check INIS's website on a daily basis, and equally there is no guarantee that everyone (that's 5000 applicants + 5000 guests) will inform them accordingly. I hope INIS will shorten the ceremony. Get rid of the military band and endless speeches from different departments. Everyone takes their certificate and repeats the words with the judge. Then leave. That shall be it.

That doesn't mean there's a higher risk of anyone getting infected in the ceremony. The venue is big enough and the ventilation isn't quite good. As long as everyone keeps in mind of their own (e.g. don't touch face with hand, sneeze to elbow, wash hands as often as possible etc), they should be fine. If someone is coughing a lot, just keep yourself away from them.

Normal masks won't reduce any risk. Only those with FFP2/FFP3 standards can filter virus like this, which is impossible to buy in any pharmacy nowadays.
