Hi all, hope you’re well. I’m going to apply for my first Irish passport and I’m reading from the post above about a witness? Can you explain to me how it works?
When you apply you will supply photographs and the form sent to Dublin. The witness is to confirm your identity and that the person on the form matches the person on the photos.
Thank you very much! Who can be your witness and will they get a call?

I am writing to confirm that sending a certified copy of the biometric page my current passport was enough to get my Irish passport. It just change to being printed.

I sent as well a certified copy of my Public Service Card (PSC)

If you live in Ireland you must go to any Garda station and you will sign the form in front of an officer

Was your application based on naturalization and residency in Ireland ?

Further to my witness question further up the thread:

I asked the same question to the live chat. They said to get another form and get a police officer to sign as if they miss the witness they'll request another form with other witness details.

What occupation were your witnesses?

Mine was a headteacher. I'm a school teacher and he agreed to sign it for me.

My application has been 'In Processing' since 04/07. Have just been told it's done nothing since then other than sit in a queue waiting to be allocated to someone. So frustrating. It would be much better if they managed people's expectations by being honest about current processing times.

It will say 'processing' until the status changes to 'printing'. What's your estimated issue date?

Issue date was 06/07. I realise it will show as processing until it's printed, but live chat have confirmed they've done nothing with the application since 04/07, it's just sitting in a queue awaiting allocation to an application checker.

Mine is similar:

23/05/2022: Online application
24/05/2022: Documents posted from London
27/05/2022: Documents delivered to Balbriggan
07/06/2022: Status changed to "Processing application: We have received your supporting documents. We are now verifying these documents"
01/07/2022: Status changed to "Processing application: Your application is being processed"
12/07/2022: Estimated issue date

WebChat can't tell me what's going on or why my application has taken 38 working days so far, despite the turnaround time for "first time applicants" at https://www.dfa.ie/passports/turnaround-times/ having been reduced last month from 30 to 25 working days. If their workload is reducing, then why are our applications taking longer than both the advertised turnaround time and the estimated issue dates?

At the moment, it appears that passports typically get printed 4 - 6 weeks after the estimated issue date. The DFA say the passport backlog is reducing but the wait times betray that.

If that's the case, then why did they reduce the advertised turnaround time from 30 to 25 working days in June? And why haven't they increased it back to 40 or 45 working days to take account of this new backlog?

I don't have the answers for that I'm afraid, and I don't think it's a new backlog - it's just one that keeps getting bigger. I was in the system since 23 Sept last year, and felt like I was getting nowhere with them until my passport got printed last week....I kept on just getting one excuse after the other for the delay. In the end I got Simon Coveney TD involved.

Plenty of first time passports have recently been printed only a few days after the status changed to processing and very close to the estimated issue date, for example:
It is already 15 working days since my application's status changed to processing (an earlier date than nearly all the above applications did so) and 8 working days after my estimated issue date, and it's still not printing. What causes this significant variation?

I can't answer your questions, as I don't work for the passport office. Get in touch with Simon Coveney TD....he's the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Passport Office is part of his remit:

Been requested to send my original passport for my application 5 days after estimation due date, as it seems the certified copy of the passport which I sent, was not accepted, my application passed the verify documents status stage and it was on Process doc status.
This is quite strange as there are number of people here who sent the certified copies of their passport and had a straight processes.
My estimation due date was 15th July 22 and now estimation date is15 Aug 22, I don't know why they add another month to verify the passport as other documents were already verified.

On what basis did you acquire Irish citizenship and in which country do you live?

Is the request to supply an original passport consistent with the document requirements at https://www.dfa.ie/passports/documentar ... ornabroad/ ?

Irish citizenship through naturalisation and applied from Ireland.
As an alternative to an original passport, had you supplied a photocopy of your Public Services Card or a certified copy of your driving licence, pursuant to https://www.dfa.ie/passports/documentar ... .en.358286 ?
