Do they usually give tracking numbers when they dispatch the passport, card and the original documents? My passport book has been dispatched today but I can't find any tracking info on the page.
Yes, but it takes a few days for the tracking info to populate. Wait a few days, it should show up.

Just to correct myself here. There is tracking for the passport and card. I did not receive any tracking for the return of my documents. They just showed up.

While I'm waiting for my fbr to arrive in the post, does it make sense to do the passport application online now? I''ll put the passport docs off in the mail just as soon as the fbr arrives as I want to wrap up this whole process asap!

You could apply now, but they will not start the process until all relevant documents are received.

Received my FBR Cert. Congrads email on Feb 1, 2023 and applied for my Passport on-line on the same day. Actual FBR Certificate was received on 2/6/23 and I turned it right around and sent it back Global Express (FEDEX) to Balbriggan the same day ands was received by Passport Services on 2/10/23 and now shows in their Passport Tracking system today.

I sent the following after contacting the Irish Consulate in Boston to clarify:

Original Application Cover Page
Original Identity Verification Form signed by my Attorney/Notary
My Original/Raised Stamped U.S. Birth Certificate
My Original FBR Certificate
A Certified/Notarized Color photo copy of my active U.S. Passport
A Certified/Notarized Original Census Form with my street listing from the Town I live in
A Certified/Notarized Original Bill from my Hospital with my name on it

Aren't you supposed to provide 3 sources for proof of address and 3 for proof of name?

Hey folks I am about to make my first application for an Irish passport. I have my FBR certificate and am based in England if that has any bearing on the answer.

Am I ok to submit a certified copy of my passport? I don't fancy sending my actual passport in case the Royal Mail go rogue.

Also does anyone know roughly how long it is taking these days for 1st passports?

Cheers all

I sent a certified copy of Passport, Drivers license, CitizenCard & hope that will be acceptable. My application has been sitting in Milton Keynes Parcelforce for 16 days now according to tracking. If it is imperative to send passport I won't be using Royal Mail or Parcelforce 😬

Certified copy of passport is fine.

And yes I would not use Royal Mail. The likes of UPS and DHL Express are way better.

Anyone have experience (good or bad) sending passport application documents from US? I sent my FBR application US mail international and it got there ok. Wonder if there's any benefit to UPS or DHL?

Yeah I haven't sent it yet and think I might go DHL or UPS rather than Royal Mail. What a nightmare postage is atm.

Do they actually call your Witness as stated on the Passport Identity Verification Form?...."Your application will not be processed until we speak with your witness by telephone"

I'm still waiting on the actual call to him...

I sent all original documents including UK passport on 7 Feb 23, and have just checked Royal mail tracking and my large letter is sitting in Inverness Scotland. So it looks like things are still not working even though their website says different. Im going to phone the help desk tomorrow to see if I can get an update. Will post their answer up.

Hi all, managed to speak to someone at Royal Mail Helpline after more than an hour waiting in a phone queue. My passport application is now being held at the Northampton mail depot. Online tracking still shows at Inverness. The helper could not answer why this is not updated. They also could not give a date that it might go to Ireland but assured me it is not lost. If it is lost I was told that nothing could be done until 6 weeks were up. Then
Went on to say I could send it by Parcel Force, I asked how that could happen as you have my letter. I also asked why the Post Office accepted my letter, I was told to take that up with the Post Office as they are not part of the Royal Mail and they only use their delivery services. Looks like I will just have to wait and hope it all sorts itself out. Hope anyone sending from the UK has a bit of good luck when sending to Ireland. The best option take it yourself or maybe Parcel Force.

A couple of questions about my first time, application, paperwork:

I am an applicant from the United States.

First, they ask I send in my original passport, but we will be traveling in about a month so I can’t do that.

Would they accept a photo copy that has been notarized as an exact copy by one of the appropriate witnesses? They did accept that when I filed for foreign birth registration, just want to make sure they would accept it this time. I could just use the copy sent the first time

Alternatively, would they accept the original passport card instead of the passport book?

Second, since the address to submit everything to is a PO Box, does anyone know if UPS would deliver there? I would rather use UPS for expedited shipping then rely on the post office? UPS does not normally deliver to post office boxes in the United States

Thanks in advance

Heyo

Just recently got my FBR approved.

I can just send in my actual British passport instead of a certified photocopy right? That should be enough for the ID requirement? Or do I need more?

The actual passport is what they ask for, so if you are happy sending it, you can. You can start the online passport application now. I did before I physically recieved the FBR certificate & documents back. That way you can get the digital photos uploaded etc then send them what they need. I used a Max Spielmann photobooth at Sainsburys that specifically had an 'Irish Passport photo requirement' button.

Hi folks, just to let anyone know who is reading this worrying about Royal Mail. I braved it and went with the Royal Mail, and it took 11 days to get there which wasn't too bad.

Am now waiting for the inevitable problems as my witness did my forms in her married name but goes by her maiden name at work. I didn't spot it until after I had sent the docs doh!

Hoping someone can help! My first time passport app was just received today. The passport tracker says I need to submit supporting documents. I closely followed the documentation guidelines so the application should be complete. I’m wondering if maybe Im getting that message because the package has been received but the materials haven’t yet been reviewed. Sound familiar to anyone?
