Renew passport while pending citizenship application

Hi guys,

So my home country passport is due to expire soon and I will be renewing it in the next few months. Am I to send the new passport to citizenship right away or notify them that it's been renewed?

Just send a photocopy of your new passport to them, preferably a certified copy (or just go to Gardai or your bank to get it stamped for free). No need to send in originals unless and until they tell you to.

Per requirement, you are required to keep INIS update of any change to your personal status. Passport change is considered a big enough change.

It’s not spelled out in the application so I don’t think it would have any negative effect on you if you don’t disclose the information, but it will definitely delay your application as they will eventually know that you got a new passport and will ask you for it.

I was in the same situation and wrote to INIS for clarification.They sent me the following reply:

"Please submit a colour photocopy of the Biometric
page of your new passport when you receive to this office and it will be
associated with your file."

Luckily my Citizenship approval came before my passport expired So I did not have to renew my original passport. Hope this helps.
