Is anyone here still on 'advance stage' or is anyone approved already?
Hi
My case is at advance stage and the file has been submitted to the minister for the decision but still I haven't received anything yet hopefully they will put me in the next ceremony but so far they haven't sent invitations to anyone.

Hi,
I requested the status of my application on 11th Jul 2019, I got a update on 16th Aug 2019.

"Your application is currently at an advanced stage of processing. While it
is not possible to give an exact timeframe, this office will be in touch
with you as soon as a decision has been reached"

not sure whether it will be approved for next ceremony!!.
My timelines :
applied in Apr 2018 (Non ECU stamp4)

@RajSingh1 when did you hear about your application advance stage ?.
Any one knows how long it typically takes from advance stage to approval ?

Regards
CF

Hi @cloudfish
I am at advance stage since January 2019 and in June 2019 I got an email saying my file has been submitted to the minister so I'm waiting for the decision. I seriously don't know how long will it take as for some people it take a month to get approval from advance stage for some a week and in my case it has been bit longer so let's hope for the best.

As a civil servant myself (NI) I think it’s best not to panic based on the opinion of one INIS employee. Right or wrong, the civil servants on the phone are usually the last to know about high level decisions (and postponing September’s ceremony, even for a month, with all associated costs/penalties would be such a decision).

In the absence of facts, some will give callers limited advice and stick to the bare facts, others will try to help and give an opinion based on rumours, their own deductions and comparisons with previous situations etc. These are often wrong.

I can believe that INIS are holding of approving applications and sending invitations until the last possible moment, until the draft legislation is finalised for submission and timescales are set. But all the phone response re cancellation shows is that the office has been told nothing either.

So best to wait for an official INIS statement before panicking.

Guys, last time for the April ceremony someone called the Killarney convention centre to ask if the ceremony date is still booked for the venue, so you can definitely try and call the venue!

My 2 cents..this september ceremony will go ahead with cases which are clear i.e. no travels in last year..rest would be processed post change in law...

Worst cast entire ceremony will be postponed

Possible, but unlikely. Reviewing every case would be a mammoth task that would grind the dept to a halt (remember, up until now they’ve only had to note 6 weeks or more, nothing less). Also, how would they differentiate between NI and ROI applicants (when the formers visits to the UK mainland are not logged) or ROI citizens who spent a weekend in Belfast? Even “clear” cases may not be clear because the “right” information was not requested at the time of application.

My guess is INIS go ahead based on the amendment being in place by then, or if DSO advice confirms that the proposed amendment will retrospectively coveri their decisions, or they postpone until October (the bill shouldn’t take more than a week or two to pass if unopposed). They did postpone a ceremony for a month in 2017 due to bad weather, so there is precedent.

My husband got a letter on July saying it went into the second stage. Since then we haven't heard anything. They won't reply any emails or answer call. They only work 2 days a week and from 10:30 to 12:30. Iv been in Ireland 8 years finished my college Last year and was working with 30000 annual income. Now because my husband has his stamp 4 through his parents, i could only get stamp 3 which isn't allowing me to work at all. My husband has been working since he was 18 and now he is 23. Earning 35000 as a chef. And yet they think he is a dependent. He has been waiting for his citizeship for almost a year now. We have submitted the change of status request letter 3 months ago. No response yet. I am sitting here jobless wondering why i had to leave such a good job, graduate and stay home like this. This is insane. Paying taxes regularly, going to expensive university, to stay jobless with this useless stamp 3. WOW

I'm afraid I have to disagree. The application form does not ask if you have had a full 12 months with no travels whatsoever so inis does not have that data to hand in order to distinguish between those that have and have not.

That could be resolved by requesting by mail to provide this information in writing.
Something like to answer one question, sign and send back.
The only things if they really wish to obey this new rule or just want to wait until resolved.

Nobody will ask 8000 people for witnessed signed affidavits or go through the databases for every individual travel history, especially when "illegal trip to Belfast" cannot be tracked in any way.

They only need to amend the law by the date of the ceremony. The approvals can still be sent out, because they are not final approvals, merely notifications of intention. Final approval is certificate given and each one is dated as the day of the ceremony.

If they realize they can't rush all stages and get the president to enact the bill by September 29, the ceremony will be postponed. But that's all a matter of couple of weeks really.

I think the next five days are very important and will decide what will happen.

If no one gets approval by next week then they are most chances that the coming ceremony will be postponed.

It s strange how a ruling from an irish court can be based on definition of a word "continuous" from oxford dictionary and not common sense, clear facts and human rights. How can you stop or restrict any person from travelling just for the sake of irish passport.
I think this simply shows how blind and dumb the law can sometimes be.
I think the next ceremony must not be cancelled or postponed, as there is already so many applications backlog and this will make the situation worse for INIS, as a lot of people get frustrated and go to the court for a decision on their application.

This will be unfair given EEA nationals can get away and I don't think department will allow this.
This is all very complex. Let's see what happens.

INIS can’t discriminate on grounds of nationality. They either screen everyone or implement an another solution. EU/UK nationals, or NOI based applicants, will not necessarily have the relevant passport stamps. And that’s before factoring in travel to the U.K., including NI.

INIS are a govt dept and will be thinking pragmatically about the manifold complications their decision making, e.g. the cost of cancelling/postponing and rearranging September’s ceremony vs holding a ceremony in a space booked for 4000 for the 100/200 or applicants who can somehow prove they didn’t leave the state.

I expect an announcement soon, either way.

I send email and get below response from Killarney convention centre.

Hello Aneel,

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately we do not have the date of the next Citizenship Ceremonies just yet, but if you check the Department of Justice website regularly it will be announced on that once they have confirmed the date.

Kind regards,

I call INIS today and there is a chance of ceremony postponed due to court ruling but nothing confirmed yet until they put it on the website.
