A lady at inis told me today that they are at a stand still and don't know what's going to happen with the whole court ruling and are just waiting for information and also told me because of this there is a huge backlog and to just sit tight and wait and see what happens.

I heard something similar from INIS today when I called them. I asked if the September ceremony would go ahead and they said "we are waiting on instructions about that", but to keep an eye on the website.

Based on timing for previous ceremonies we should have seen a few approvals posted on here already (but we haven't). It is a tight timeframe for them to get 3000 approvals completed and returned, and invitations completed and returned. It's not impossible, but I now think it's unlikely that the 30th Sept date will go ahead.

My application is at the final stage waiting to go to the Minister.

My application is on same stage I messaged my td to see if there is anything he can find out it's so frustrating if this continues there will be a massive backlog in the system!!

Feeling bold, I thought I'd just try to call the Minister (or rather, his office) to ask the same questions. Of course, one number goes to voice mail ("mailbox is full") and the other doesn't get answered and disconnects...

If anyone else feels inspired to make some calls here are the details on the Oireachtas website

There must be at least a thousand or so approvals and payments already in their system. They probably have another batch ready to go, but it will need to be soon as at least a fortnight is required to receive fees etc. My wife received her invitation 4 days before April’s ceremony, so it’s not impossible.

Given the backlog postponement will cause, I would think they will try and reschedule for as soon as possible, maybe in late October, if they decide to take that route. Otherwise people will run into increasing difficulties with GNIBS etc. But this would need to be arranged with the venue in advance, so I’m thinking that INIS are holding off until a ministerial decision is taken. Which will have to be soon....

I know few people who have not applied and trying to make 1 year travelfree before applying...i told them to get into the system ASAP as no point in waiting to meet a requirement which will be hopefully changed.

I am trying to find a reasonable explanation about what is actually going on here, and how a 'court ruling' that was brought in completely out of the blue without any warning, is in fact affecting current ongoing applications and not only those that came in after this ruling. It just doesn't make sense and seems quite convenient given the current backlog.
Ofcourse, one can only speculate about INIS' reasoning, given nobody is being provided with any type of an update, but the whole thing just seems very suspicious.

I agree with you, first of all even if they gonna change the law and requirements of the process then it will be applied for applicants who will apply right after the new rules and it cannot trace back some applications otherwise there will be cases in court against them and trust me they are not stupid to do such a thing. However during my 7 years in Ireland, I can tell that in everywhere in Ireland there are 2 is missing important factors and I guess they are trying their best to be

1- Lack of management and experience
2- Low and slow in adaptability

That's why they have backlog, apparently the officers who work in such offices are inexperience and some not really hold a higher education certificates so from that you can tell about the bad management and adpatability. It might be wrong, but as you said, it seems to be dodgy and not straightforward.

Guys it’s not a new law created by the judge. It is the interpretation of the existing one. An Aussie applicant who was refused citizenship because he was out of Ireland for over 6 weeks took inis to court and the judge ruled that the word continuous means the full year and the minister never had the discretion to give 6 weeks time. Hence it’s for everyone and not for new applicants. You can understand the judge’s point of view. It’s just that the timing of the judgement is not convenient as the parliament is in recess.the legislation to amend the wording should pass straightaway when the dail resumes in September. Although I think it is getting tight for Sept ceremony.

Make sense but now this is worrying me a bit now as they reject it him for being over 6 weeks out, so they may make it worse and less. in 2016 I went on a holiday for 3 weeks (Which in a year before applying) also now I wanted to have a holiday as never went on one since 2016 so I am going on holiday all OCTOBER which is 4 weeks and 2 days. Now I might be rejected then. :?: :?: :?:

( I applied in SEP 2017 and just moved to 2nd stage may 2019....)

We will know in few weeks time anyways. But it’s a judiciary vs legislature battle and for the first time minister and department is on our side. I personally think that they will amend the word continuous with minister’s discretion rather than a timeframe.

Hi guys,

So I received my letter to say the "minister intends to grant your" to which of course I promptly responded with everything they needed and paid (within 2 days). I also had this sent via registered post and have several emails confirming the photos and payment was received.

However since then, I have received nothing and I am sure like the rest of you - am anxiously awaiting my invitation to the ceremonies. I applied last year August and honestly, this entire process has taken a lot longer than it did for several of my friends who applied (Zimbabwean/US/UK citizen) - I realise each application is unique (and Brexit & the cour ruling has probably delayed everything further) but this limbo has been pretty tough.

Just to confirm, no one has received an invitation yet? I have anxiously been checking the post everyday.

Just gotta stay positive I guess. :)

Guys,

I spoke with my lawyer, he told me that there will be no approval until they figure out what to do with this new law.

I am on second stage from June as many of you here.

This entire system is a bloody joke. In every other EU country if you apply for citizenship it takes maximum 6 months to make a decision. But here in Ireland we have been waiting to get a decision for more than 3 years. The contact number for citizenship department is just waste of time they don't have a single clue about our file or the email they say the same copy paste reply to everyone as if you are talking to a robot.
Only few thousand people apply for Irish citizenship but still the process is too slow while in other EU countries half a million people apply and get it sorted within a year. Most likely they will cancel the September ceremony.

I rang the citizenship last Thursday, the lady told me I'm on the final stage and said that if by Monday we don't hear any update about court case is very unlikely the ceremony will happen.

I ring today and she said officially they don't know if the Sept ceremony will happen or no.

She said, hopefully by the end of this week, they will put something on the website about the ceremony.
