Switching from Stamp 1G to Critical Employment permit / Work Permit

Hello everyone,

If someone who just switched to Stamp 1G, finds a job almost immediately, and assuming that the job is eligible for Work permit or the Critical Employment Permit, can they right away apply for the Critical Employment permit / work permit? Or should they plan it such that they get the work permit just before the end of 1G and then apply for the new stamp while it is up for renewal? The official timeline for Critical Employment permit seems to be 12 weeks. Not sure if that is affected by the COVID scenario.
