U.S. citizen married to a Irish citizen-how do we move to IE

Post by Boylan33 » Mon May 19, 2008 5:11 pm

My husband is a Irish Citizen who came to the US in 2006 and then we got married in Feb or 2007. This year 2008 we had our first son in March.
We would look to move to Ireland soon but not sure how to do it. Can i fly to ireland and do the paperwork there or do i need a visa before flying? Do i have to register somewhere? I also heard stories of people overstaying there passports and getting a work permit?
Also what type of paperwork can we got for our son, since he is a US citizen also.

If anyone could try and answer some of these questions i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks----

Your son I think is also an Irish citizen based on dad being Irish, and both countrie allow dual citizenship, so check with the Irish Embassy about applying for an Irish passport for him.

There's no way to apply for a visa prior to entering Ireland, so you would just enter on a visa waiver, and then apply for a Stamp 4 at the Garda National Immigration Bureau in Dublin (GNIB)to remain based on marriage to an Irish citizen. Other than the marriage certificate, I'm not sure what other documentation they need. Try doing a search here for Stamp 4...there's a few people that have posted their experiences and what they submitted with the application.

Congratulations on the new baby :)
