US married to Irish working in UK?

Post by miseian » Tue Jan 12, 2010 5:00 pm

Hi everyone, just a quick question. I'm an American citizen married to an Irish citizen and am looking at jobs in the UK. Am I eligible to work there or would I need a special visa?
Thanks

You are eligible to live and work there under the EEA regulations if your spouse is resident there and she is either working, self-employed, studying or financially self-sufficient there.

You are, provided your spouse resides in the UK as well. You wouldn't be eligible to live and work in the UK if your spouse remains resident in Ireland.

If you apply at the British Embassy in Dublin for an EEA Family Permit, once that is in your passport it will show potential employers in the UK that you have the right to work.

The good news is that the application fee for the EEA Family Permit is €0 !
