Irish Citizenship via Reckonable Residency Naturalisation

Post by MichaelTN » Sun Mar 23, 2025 11:32 pm

Hey,

Apologies if this is a running topic, not seen anything relating to this via a search and I find it hard to get a definitive answer even on the governments own website.

Judging by the Citizenship Guidance Document checklist, it looks as if you only need:
  • Passport Biometrics page in colour & certified by a solicitor
  • Birth Certificate in colour & certified by a solicitor
  • 5 years of bank statements
  • 5 years of utility bills
This seems a bit... thin?

My spouse has been now living here for 7 years. She is Non-EU & I am British.

Is there a definitive list of documents? We have used the new online portal for the application.

If so, I am also curious about the Proof of Residency upload. It states you should upload multiple PDFs in the one file, does this mean.
  • Utility Bills 2020-2025
or
  • Utility Bills 2021
  • Utility Bills 2022
  • Utility Bills 2023 etc
Thanks!

1. Yes for EU/UK nations that is the complete list of documents that you need to upload. Unlike most other EU/UK countries, Ireland does not require EU/UK nationals to register with the authority, therefore there is no definitive start date of when you took up residency in the system.

2. The list of documents is available at https://www.irishimmigration.ie/wp-cont ... l-2024.pdf
Although you should always refer to the latest version provided in the application portal.

3. You can upload these documents however you like, as long as the file names make sense to the officers.

1. Ah, so for my case, my Spouse is Azerbaijani (Non-EU) (this is for her, not me)

2. The latest version in the application portal, where is this? I have looked throughout the application portal and it just redirects me to that link you gave (which is what my bullet point list contains)

3. Awesome - just wanted to make sure they wont be too picky!

For non-EU applicants their permissions have been registered with the authority so they would have their details already. They should fill out the residency calculator to confirm they have the required 5 years of residency. They used to require applicants to upload a screenshot of the calculator as well. Not sure if it is still the case though but there is no harm doing that. If you have saved photos of all the previous IRP cards it would be good to upload these as well.

Link to calculator:

If the latest application form gives you that link then that is the list of documents required. They do update the list from time to time. If they want more documents they will simply email the applicant.

That makes a lot of sense. They do not ask for the residency calculator anymore it seems, I have still run it just in case and everything is in the green, so no concerns there.

They just state do not upload/provide more than what they ask. Always a grey area on documentation lol.

I will just go ahead with what that Citizenship Guidance Document says and proceed. Looks like we're sending it off tonight - exciting!

Very helpful Littlerr, thanks as always :)
