Irish National w/ non-EU spouse

Post by decimus » Mon Apr 21, 2008 12:34 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm an Irish national and I'll be marrying a non-EU spouse (from a visa-required country) in Ireland in June. She is arriving on a visitor's visa a few weeks before the wedding. We already gave the 3 month notice and have booked a date at the Civil Registration Office.

We intend to stay in Ireland after we are married, I was told to report to the GNIB in order to get her a Stamp 4, which will give her permission to stay in Ireland. However, this can be lengthy process, taking up to a year.

My question is whether she will be allowed to leave and re-enter Ireland during that waiting period? We plan to take a few trips out of Ireland (to Europe and one trip back to her home country) and I want to make sure that she will be allowed back into Ireland.

It'd be great if anyone could help! Many thanks.
