Irish Naturalization/Citizenship from Northern Ireland

Post by adl » Mon Apr 28, 2014 5:08 pm

Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone could help me please.
I am non EU, have been living and working(fulltime) under British Immigration Law in Northern Ireland for last five years.

My question is,

Could I apply for Irish Naturalization/Citizenhship?

Thanks

Are you the spouse of an Irish national who is also living with you in Northern Ireland? If not, no you can't.

Non-EEA nationals who are not spouses of Irish nationals are not eligible for Irish citizenship just because they lived in NI. You will have to seek some kind of residence/citizenship in the UK as NI is politically part of the UK.

If you are the spouse of an Irish national, you could have applied after 3 full years of residence in Ireland. See here for details: http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/WP11000014
