Job Market for IT professionals - MCSE.

Hi All,

I would appreciate if someone can tell me how is the job Market for IT Professional in Support role, specially Windows environment in UK?

I am MCDBA and MCSE certified professional. Which area in UK will be best for me and my profession?

To be honest, just being MCDBA or MCSE won't land you in any dream job. Especially if you don't have any prior UK experience.

Anyway, situation is also not bad either. Come & see but if coming without any job offer, don't quit your current job in India.

I can not do that. When I leave my company I will have to give them 1-2 months of notice. So that means, I will have to travel to UK to just check out the oppurtunities, once I get it askmy company in UK to wait for me for 2 months, then back to India to resign and serve the notice period, then go back to UK & then join them.

I don't think that will be possible. I'll have to take some risk associated with this. Anyways, just to let you know I am MCDBA/MCSE/MBA/ITIL & brainbench certifird professional.

Now tell me, what is the job prospect for me anywhere in UK?

ravi,
you have good qualifications as far as job market is concerned.
But it's not going to be smooth in your job search. Max. prefer local UK experience / references from UK guyz. If you dont have either might face tough time in your search. Am not disappointing you, but making you aware.

If not, then I will have to fight for my space and it wil take some time. Agreed. But the question is: How long? What I mean to say is that if I start with some local job or work with some local company or project, will that experience count?

Once I have some exp. then I will switch over.

What do you suggest?

Go to jobsites like "jobserve.com" or "cwjobs.co.uk"...

Apply for the jobs, see how the response is , then u can decide what is your demand..

UK is very expensive, so u need good funds to keep u going without job..

If funds were not a problem the work permit is still a barrier. You won't get a job since you don't have a WP and since you don't have a job you won't get WP. Perfect CATCH22 situation. Anyone who has alternatives to this would be treated very well

I am talking about a situation when I have HSMP stamped and then going to UK to look out for a job. In that case, I don't need a WP. All I need is a job. Right?

How will that experience be? Any idea / suggestion?

Its a combination of your smartness + luck or destiny - whatever you call it!

With your expertise/skills, there is very good chance for a local guy of same calibre in UK (without immigration/hsmp hassles) to get a job offer within weeks, if not days.

What you said is right, where there is a high amount of risk and there is good pay-off as well.

So the choice is yours, good luck.

As someone who left his job in the Third world to move to the UK almost 8 weeks ago, I can definitely tell you UK experience is essential in this market.
I will say one thing though, you need luck and there must be no mention of the fact that you are coming from a different country on your CV. In all your answers always focus on your experience, the job itself and the industry.
Think up a good answer about why you want to leave or why you left your current job. HSMP should be the last answer to that question.
And do not think that saying you are willing to be paid less for a position will help. Most times that is taken to mean you are not up to standard.

Still haven't gotten a job. But I dare say for the first 3 weeks here I was being too honest about my situation. Each time I changed something on my CV on monster, jobsite, jobserve like taking out all references to my home country, or mention of my HSMP status; the calls from recruiters increased. Thus far I have gotten a couple of interviews but no job yet.

I guess I need to do something to my CV once again. And this time it will be to water down my CV a bit so I am placed a few steps below the level my experience places me right now. Not sure if this is the right step but I'm starting to think my problem is because my CV places me in the Specialist/Consultant class of IT Professional.
