Legal Employment in UK

Post by lucyliupenang » Fri May 04, 2007 10:40 am

I see that most HSMP applicants are IT based. Anyone from the legal profession seeking jobs in UK? I would like to know the current situation in London.

Thanks.

Current situation is that law firm are willing to sponsor a work permit if you graduated with a UK LLB (2.1) and have completed the training contract with them. Its difficult to show that there is a need to recruit a lawyer as now all major European lawyers are coming to London and worst in all that these European lawyers can barely speak proper English. Last time I met a lawyer from Romania, and he couldnt even draft a contract but yet due to EU laws they can come in here and work in law firms. My advice is that its a tough journey to get a work permit as a lawyer unless youve got HSMP. Even with an HSMP, the employer might ask if youve got UK experience and are you looking for the long term as your HSMP is for a restricted period of time. Honestly, better try to specialise in another area.

I didn't see a lot of legal jobs in the last 5 years, like jash said they want someone with llb from the UK, that said, lately I noticed on jobserve more widening of the conditions so its possible, check the website do a search make some enquiries, see what happens?-
