Length of Leave to Remain does not match Work Permit

Hi,
I really need help urgently.

My work permit was granted in January 2006 for 5 full years.
However, my Leave to Remain was granted from February 2006 to December 2010, which is 2 months short of the 5 years. And because of that, I couldn't apply for settlement.

I was my stupidity and ignorance for not questioning it at the time. I always thought I could apply for settlement before the Leave to Remain expires.

I have phoned Work Permit UK and PEO, but no one could tell me why and if it was a mistake. No one could really tell me what to do.

If I need to get my employer to apply for registered Sponsor and then apply for certificate to sponsorship, god knows how long that is going to take for the sake of 1 - 2 months extension.

Please could someone give me some urgent advice?

If the consulate granted entry clearance for the wrong length of time (probably just due to an error in adding up) then you should ask the UKBA to consider amending the error. It would be a terrible lot of trouble for your employer to go through to get a sponsor licence (cost: at least £400), apply for the right to issue a CoS, issue the CoS (cost £170) and you to apply for FLR Tier 2 (cost £475) if all this was down to someone not being able to add up correctly.

That is exactly my thought.
I have called UKBA a few times and talked to some many people. A nice lady looked into it for me, but told me there is nothing they can do for me, and I have to call the Work Permits UK which I have also done several times.
I was asked by Works Permit UK to fax a letter to the 'Leave to Remain Legacy Team'. But without knowing who is going to pick it up and look into it (if any), and without phone number to call the team directly, it just doesn't make me feel any better.

It is just a waiting game at the moment to see if someone will get back to me asap....
