Letters for annual leave - how about contractors?

Post by MPI » Fri Mar 11, 2011 1:32 pm

Hi ,
I have noticed perm workers submit a letter from their employer confirming their annual leave absences .

I am contractor and we are not paid for A/Ls , essentially we don't have one. There is not even any formal agreements to take them. I just arrange it with my manager - verbally . Do I have to ask my company to produce some formal confirmation if I wanted to travel abroad?

This may sound very odd and not sure if they agree.

Any ILR holders with contracting experience?
thanks

Technically, letter is only required if your absences are above 180 days over ILR qualifying period (assuming you are going through SET(O)). If you are under these then no specific letter for absences is required. Proof of employment is still required and i am sure you can provide that.

If you are above 180 days then you may have a problem.
