Live in the EU

Post by peanutka » Tue Jan 03, 2006 2:47 pm

We are a Romanian-Iranian(romanian resident) couple who wants to live in the EU. If Romania enters the EU in 2007 what are the countries where we could live and work and what are the legal aspects? I know that in some countries newcomers to the EU can work just after a couple or years or more where in some countries right away?
Does anyone know of a good website about this subject?

Judging by what happened when the A8 countries joined on 01.05.04, the UK, Ireland and Sweden were the only existing countries to open up their labour market as from that date.

Absolutely no guarantee that the UK will act in the same way when/if Romania etc join in 2007 or whenever. However that is a possibility.

Of course, as you say, after the transitional period has ended there will be total freedom to live and work anywhere in the EEA.

There is a useful set of facts in this document. Until I read that I did not appreciate that the transitional arrangements for the A8 countries might continue until 2011.
