Long Residence- Interesting

Vinny has mentioned something very interesting (Caseworker Instruction re. Long Residence). Check it out.

I would like to clarify few things:

Suppose Mr X is on dependent visa and before his visa expires he applies for student visa from abroad and return to UK, then his long residency is not broken if he returns within six months. Am I right?

2. Is it possible to use the caseworkers instruction (that you referred) when someone applies for ILR under Long Residence?
