Re: Losing Kazakh citizenship

Hi there,

I have a quick question for any people who was born in Kazakhstan but gained UK citizenship. I know that you cannot have dual citizenship in Kazakh law, but what is procedure for inform the KZ government that you are now UK citizen, give documents etc? I would rather not have to go back to KZ to do it; has anyone just been able to tell the embassy in London and dropped off the old passport and ID card?

It's confusing. I was under the impression that gaining citizenship of another country led to the automatic loss of Kazakh citizenship. Is there a difference between renunciation and loss? I ask because they're under 2 headings on the page you linked.

Also, do you know if there are repercussions for people who don't tell the embassy immediately of their new status? It doesn't say anywhere I can find, apart from the words 'immediately' and 'within 3 days'. That ship has sailed unfortunately.
