Marriage in the UK?????

Post by omeo_21 » Thu Aug 06, 2009 3:09 pm

Hi guys, firstly I don't know if this is the right place to post this topic so forgive if i'm wrong.

Basically I'm planning to get married to my cousin who is from abroad.I am a british national. Its a genuine relationship that has been going on for a number of years and is part of my custom and culture. My cousin came to visit me last year on a family visa here in the UK and she has been given another family visa to visit the UK which is valid for only 6 months. On the time when she arrives she'll have approximately 3 months left on her visa. If i decided at this time to get married to her in the UK would it at all be possible, I know I would most likely need a certificate of approval and such???

I greatly appreciate to those who give me answers, I have posted on other sites but I just received ridiculous comments.

Thanks again!!!! :D

Hi , may be you might find out if its possible to apply for the certificate of approval before she comes . i think from experience you need to have 6 months or more on your visa and if she is here for 6 months then you should apply straight away, but if not it might be easier to do it from where she is originally.

why dont you go and get married there?

Thanks for your reply iroquois. I know I could get married to her abroad but I was just afraid that if i went how long ti would take and the possiblity of loosing work, which I would need to prove I have stable income.

But what I would like to know is it possible for her to marry even if she's on a family visa and if so what if she asked for her visa to be extended before she arrived??

Thanks again
