marriage visitor visa

Post by shabd » Mon May 23, 2011 11:20 pm

Dear Sirs,
I am a pakistani national married to a british national, applied for the spouse visa which was declined on the bases that marriage is invalid as my husband would not get decree absolute before from UK court before marrying to me.....at the moment both of us living together in pakistan.....................can anyone please advise me if marriage visitor visa is a suitable option for me to get married in UK to validate our marriage as per british law?

thanks

Until such time that a decree absolute is issued, your partner remains legally married to his first wife and cannot marry again (at least as per UK laws).

thanks sushdmehta,
decree absolute has been issued even while i was appling for spouse visa but i understand the reason why UK law invalidate our marriage but my question is if i want to validate my marriage as per UK laws, can i do through marriage visit visa by going there itself in UK to get married? or the options are closed for me due to one wrong step???

If you want to get married in the UK so that you can live here with your husband, you need a fiancé visa. A marriage visit visa is for people who intend to leave the UK after they get married.

If you get a fiancé visa, then after the wedding has taken place you can apply for leave to remain in the UK as a spouse.
