Married to a Brit, have ILR less than 12 months.

Post by Flathead wifi » Thu Apr 25, 2019 10:34 pm

Good evening all you helpful peeps.
During our long long visa journey I'd always thought that my husband (Turkish citizen) once he'd received his ILR would need to wait a minimum of 12 months before applying for naturalisation...HOWEVER, can someone clarify if I'm reading the government website correct that IF married to a British Citizen (from birth), and have ILR (regardless whether it's been for 1 month or 13 months), and he's been in the UK for a minimum of 3 years (he's been here continously 6 yrs November) then he can apply for naturalisation?!? I mean if this is correct we would be over the moon, but I'm always super cautious about what I read incase I'm just being dim.

It seems you can apply quicker if you're married to a Brit as apposed to not.

Warm hopeful regards
Dawn

Good news! You're correct. Assuming your husband meets all the standard requirements....within the permitted absence limit in the 3 year qualifying period, B1 level English + Life in the UK, good character etc, he can apply now.

You're welcome. Do ensure that your husband wasn't outside of the UK on the equivalent date 3 years prior to the date the BC application is submitted.
