Nothing more than political point-scoring on the part of the Torygraph. All this does is increase the public perception that migrants are to blame for everything in the UK.

Most jobs appear to have been lost in industrial and retail sectors, which aren't tradionally areas where migrants from outside the EEA tend to specialise in.

Many companies in India send staff to the site in the UK for short periods, often less than 6 months. This, I believe will account for a large proportion of the final figure.

There is always more to figures like this than it first seems. I expect the figures for this year to be less accross the board.

I like tyhe fact that they have neglected to mention that 2008 was the last year for Work Permits before it was changed to the Tier 2 systems and so a influx of applications and approvals was incredibly likely. Also, the main amount of unemployed britons at the moment are comming from the retail and general skilled areas where as most of the non EU migrants are of a highly skilled nature. Statistics can say what ever you want them to :lol:
