I have a friend whos is a british citizen,and his wife is in the uk on a two year settlement visa,and due to unforseen circumstances , he has had to go to the local authority to claim emergency housing,now has been given a two bed tempory housing,along with full housing benefit,council tax benefit,he is also claiming income based job seekers allowance along with tax credits and his wife is not claiming a dime as all of the benfits are in his name(apart from the child tax credits which by law has to be claimed jointly) and he sees no problam when his wife comes up for ILR in may next year. ah yes nearly forgot child benefit as well for the child that was born four months after his wife come to the united kingdom.
