Re: Dual Nationality, Two Names - int'l return travel issues

Hi Andy, My son did have a Chinese passport, but it had expired while we were living in the UK. The Chinese Embassy would not allow him to travel on a British passport because he was still a Chinese citizen, and therefore would not issue a Chinese visa to him. They issued the blue book to him instea...

Re: Dual Nationality, Two Names - int'l return travel issues

Hello yesmaybe, Read your post. This forum has helped me a few times in the past, and that, coupled with my own experiences has given me some valuable insights at least into the situation we found ourselves going through in recent years. I'm more than happy to pay it forward. The difference was the ...

Re: Dual Nationality, Two Names - int'l return travel issues

The Entry/Exit Permit will serve your needs for your daughter to leave China - be sure to buy the travel ticket using her Chinese name. When you arrive in France and you are entering through immigration control at the airport, you may use your daughter's French passport. Here's what we did though: W...

Re: Dual Nationality, Two Names - int'l return travel issues

Hi! As it happens I am back and can offer further advice (based purely on our own experiences). When we arrived at the airport in Beijing to check in on that occasion, British Airways didnt have a problem. In fact, we have traveled there and back several times after that, and with Air China too. Eac...

Dual Nationality, Two Names - int'l return travel issues!?

Hi! I've been looking through the forums and couldn't find any situations quite like ours. My 6 year old has Chinese citizenship and UK citizenship. We live in the UK, and are currently visiting relatives in China. He used a Chinese Travel Document (Blue Book that looks like a passport) to leave the...

He will have no issues entering. They will scan his bio page. They will not even flip the pages. They don't care about visa/stamp in the passort.
:) Thank you very much for taking the time to reply so quickly. That's a relief! Had it in my mind that this was potentially complicated.

Thanks again.

Following on from this thread about entering the UK as a British citizen using a foreign passport I understand and accept the paragraph ROA5 on the UKBA website, as linked to above. I have a real, upcoming situation to deal with and wonder if anyone can shed some light? My son (age 6) has dual natio...

Renounce Chinese citizenship. Possible to return to UK?

I was reading through the forum with interest today since I was seeking a situation similar in extent to my own current situation which I have documented in the thread herein entitled: "UK child citizen with Chinese nationality - travel problems!" UK child citizen with Chinese nationality - travel problems!

Hello and thank you in advance for reading my post. I have a very unusual situation which has caused considerable head scratching in the last 24 hours! I apologise in advance for the long post. ILE to ILR [a pathway to naturalisation]

Hi All! My wife is on the verge of applying for her ILR after passing her LITUK test in December. She currently has an ILE (KOL REQ). I understand ILE and ILR are in many ways the same. But I am confused to an extent as to our particular situation. We arrived in the UK from China on November 5th 201...

ILE (KOL REQ) to ILR

Hi All, My wife passed her LITUK test two weeks ago after having been granted her ILE (KOL REQ) settlement visa in Beijing, issued on Oct 10th, 2011, valid until Jan 10th, 2014. We returned to the UK from China together with our son (already a UK passport holder) on November 4th, 2011. The list of d...

Hello Harv, Thanks for your reply. Appreciate you taking the time. I was under the impression that ILR status could be applied for immediately upon arrival in the UK (with KOL REQ written on the visa itself) following completion of the Knowledge of Life test (where the married couple had lived toget...

KOL REQ - When must test be passed by?

Hi! My wife entered the UK on her settlement visa valid from Oct 10, 2011. It expires on Jan 10, 2014. We lived together overseas for more than 4 years and as such she will need to wait for 2 years in order to apply for British citizenship instead of the regular 5 years. How quickly will she need to...

Thanks Casa! As it would happen, my wife was in Starbucks this morning reading her Life in the UK test preparation book. She's pretty keen to get the test out of the way as soon as possible after we arrive. We'll be travelling in about 2-3 weeks since now we have the outcome we can focus on the logi...

I was away for a couple of weeks. Just saw your post. I'm happy to say that both my wife's settlement visa (KOL REQ) and my son's certificate of entitlement to right of abode visa's were both issued late last week. It was about a 10 working day turnaround. Certainly unexpected, but what a pleasant s...

Hi Dave, Thanks for your reply and apologies for the belated counter-reply. I'm grateful you took the time to help. Spouse visa - sponsor to continue working commuting to China

Having spent the last 3 hours reading so many posts I'm feeling much more reassured about the UK settlement visa application my wife will submit to the ECO here in China next week. We are just writing up the Additional Information page. After reading the MANY posts on this site, I'm feeling confiden...
