I did the same mistake and end up paying 1965£ which I am still waiting for refund. What u should do is if u are on ILR and when it's ask for are u going to join someone in uk? That's quite confusing for me now as it's almost 2 weeks I didn't get anything back from them neither any email saying they recived the documents.

I applied for my wife from pakistan and send all the supporting documents to Sheffield new address on 3/08/216 but didn't get anything back yet. BUT mine was standard application so assuming might get them back later as u guys did priority.

Tenancy agreements tend to be 6 months anyway from my experience. I assume at then end of the 6 months you go onto a rolling one month? @Hairydude you only need those documents if any of your passport is missing(lost,Stolen) to prove that period.
I Think There is no harm in writing a covering letter so that caseworker can get a clear idea about the application.
