You don't need to declare if your salary meets the requirement, but suggest you have all your company/self employment docs with you. The main question here is when his visa expires. If it expires before 1st Sep, 2013 then the situation is slightly different. I applied initially on 17/12/2012 and got the letter on 22/01/2013 stating that the application is invalid as they were unable to take the payment (i have bank staements which prove money was always in the account). reapplied on 23/01/2013 with lawyers company acc details gave biometric on 28/02/20...
