You just keep writing the way I am doing. Have you contacted your MP? I need to get hold of mine (raised by the Home Office to the Peerage!)

At a certain point you can set the lawyers on them, I believe.

Not directly related to the thread, but here is some fun reading material while we wait: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-19944072 The Mail on Sunday reported that the education secretary believed it was time to tell the EU to "give us back our sovereignty or we will walk out" . I wonder if th...

My non-committal answer is: Common sense tells me, your wife should be allowed to enter Ireland w/o visa, however strictly speaking she may not enter Ireland without visa anymore AND i...

It is all very well to discuss, but does anyone know the answer? I can tell you the last people who know anything are the consulates and embassies. I am still to find one that gives correct information about anything. One might as well ask the baker around the corner for advice and, provided he is a...

Why is it always new members who say it is best to give in and apply for the visa? Are they planted in by the consulates? All this praise for the ease in getting the visa... :x What about people who need to travel and stay overnight in a different city just in order to apply for the "free visa" and ...

As they say, the proof of the pudding... So I sent this one to the Irish Embassy in Rome: Dear Sirs, My wife, daughter and I are planning to visit Ireland in the new future. Our daughter and I are British citizens, while my wife is Russian. We are permanent residents in Italy, having lived here cont...

Yes, it is indeed: Very clear. Now, the French... They do not even mention residence cards! But the Germans...

It reminds me of the time that I wanted to go to the UK with my wife on a visit, only to be told by SOLVIT (of all "people") that the Directive did not apply in case of short-term visits, that the only way my wife would have been covered, would have been if we had decided to settle.

The more I read of this directive, the more I am convinced it was put together by the Three Stooges after a night out. Jokes apart, I really start wondering if this directive was only meant to seem to protect family members, while not doing so. It beats me why they could not have made a regulation f...

Yes, but one of the points of pride of the UK's is that it is one of the EEA countries with the lowest level of infringement procedures being carried out against it. I wish I could remember where I read that, but read it I did. When they realise that they will be asked to pay, you bet they will sudd...

So... I was one of those who signed, if I remember well. It goes to show that people talk, but when time comes for action, the chicken in them comes out.

Last year a UK citizen got hold of me through one of my sites asking about visa-free travel. When I mentioned going to court, he vanished!

If you read the visa section on any French Embassy site it will confirm that family members of French citizens are covered, even if not directly. If in practice the French violate this it is not a matter of law, but of the way the law is applied by the sigle préfectures. As far as I know the only d...

I will let you into a secret: In Russian (and perhaps also in other Slavic languages) "Byelyj" means white while Rus' refers either to Russia or to the Rus' (Rurik), the Norse who ruled Russia for a time, so, Belarus' is not all that different from White Russia... And in Italian there is no question...

Naturally, it is inappropriate to say Éire instead of Ireland when speaking English, just as it is inappropriate to say Deutschland instead of Germany, or España instead of Spain. Very appropriate comment, yet, if we say White Russia or Peking instead of the "correct" names we risk being stoned b...
