For domestic workers who entered the UK under the old rules prior to 5th April 2012, who thus get renewals every 12 months - how long are they allowed to stay outside the UK continuously on a family visit before they will be denied re-entry ? And also is there a limit in any 12 month period ? I've s...

Re: General discussion after BC and Passport application

I didn't think that there was any "urgent" procedure for a first passport, only renewals or replacements.

Re: General discussion after BC and Passport application

Could anyone be kind enough to let me know what the Nationality class go as on the British Passport of a naturalised citizen. Will it have the former nationality or say British Citizen?? :? It says British Citizen. However your place of birth is also shown if I recall correctly, so that would give ...

Re: Passport Application - Second Interview, what next ?

Good news, the passport has arrived !! So despite a couple of mistakes and her mind going blank on a couple of things, they obviously got enough.

The lesson here is, try and stay calm and relaxed, and be as prepared as possible.

Re: Passport Application - Second Interview, what next ?

Yes, it's an identity check and based off the information on the application forms. So, it raises alarms when she doesn't know where she's lived previously or her home telephone number. Obviously the passport agent gave her the benefit of the doubt by suggesting a second interview with an interpret...

Re: Passport Application - Second Interview, what next ?

There's a thread somewhere where ppl post the questions they asked at the passport interview so you can read them and come prepared.Fathers and mothers marriage date is always there as well as dates of birth. Yes I saw that thread. I think there are some things I should add to it. Of course you nee...

Passport Application - Second Interview, what next ?

My wife's first interview went like this: She answered the first 10 questions perfectly, but slowly because she is not fluent in English. She thought it was going well but then the interviewer terminated the interview and told me at reception that she anticipated that my wife would have difficulty a...

I phoned the helpline about this. Only the current one is required where you have been naturalised. They acknowledged that their website was not clear.

Yes, I'm just going to send it directly. I'll also include a covering letter explaining the potential language difficulty and the omission of grandparent details. The booklet they give you is quite clear as to what is required.

If the PO insist, why don't you just provide the info or just write "unknown"? You don't need to use the same reference you used for naturalisation. No relatives are allowed in the identity interview. If needed, the Passport Office can provide an interpreter. I've put a note in Section 8 that grand...

just to add - i presume you provided parents detail in the AN form - use the same info in passport application as well. Indeed we did, and can just repeat those. These first passport applications are ridiculously more difficult than they used to be. You have to get a professional counter signature ...

Passport Application Section 4 - Parents and Grandparents

For citizenship achieved through naturalisation, with foreign born parents: (a) we need to fill out section 4 in full, i.e. put parents name, date and place of birth and marriage date ? (b) we need to provide grandparent details ? My local post office says definitely yes to both, but I've seen posts...

Mine was a good experience. It is totally worth it to retain your original documents, if nothing else. But there was one oddity. The Form AN has a tick box that you tick if you previously satisfied the English language requirement for ILR. In that case, you do not have to provide the proof again. Bu...

It is quite a loose definition of professional. They refer to is as a person having "professional standing". Not quite the same thing I guess.

That has been the case for a very long time. The Home Office publish a list of examples which are acceptable.

My lawyer told me this:

"The referee must be resident in the UK and professional in the UK and not outside the UK"

In the end I managed to in fact get two referees whow were both professional, and both UK resident.

Passport interview: maybe more difficult than naturalisation

Looking at the Sticky here and the passport questions http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=64893 For someone who got ILR and was naturalised years ago on ESOL - progressing one level from pre-stage 1 to stage 1 - this passport interview could be quite difficult. It seems over the top, if...

Thank you
My local NCS said if I phoned back the next day they could give me one if I wanted it, but I didn't bother.
